Why is my tethering speed so slow?

My issue is similar to other threads I have seen here. I am a on a grandfathered Simple Choice NA plan with 10 GB of high speed data. I am not close to using all of my data. My data speeds are always around 10 Mbps (or higher) download and 8 Mbps upload directly on my phone. (On the SpeedTest I just ran I got 25.5 download and 8.11 upload.) However, when I USB tether to my laptop (or desktop), data speeds drop to about 0.3 Mbps download and 0.1 Mbps upload.I have multiple lines with T-Mobile and multiple phones. It happens on all phones and all lines. The issue is not related to my location because data speeds on the phone are adequate. As soon as I USB tether, speeds drop drastically. The issue is not related to tethering to one particular laptop either. I have been having this issue for the last 1.5 years and in that time I have used several different laptops. Prior to 1.5 years ago, tethering speeds were fantastic. My T-Mobile plan has not changed during this time.My phones include

t mobile now

Ever since the merger with sprint, t mobile has been absolute trash. Even after the new sim card its crap. Who ever thought it was a good idea to merge with sprint needs to get fired. Worst thing that has happened. And my job is dependant on having mobile data and if t mobile cant have their shit together then im gonna have to switch.

Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System

On the new grey 5G home internet box, when you connect to its web page (typically http://192.168.12.1/), on the Overview screen, under the Devices panel, one of the items listed is “Mesh Wi-Fi 6 System”, just above “Wireless” and “Ethenet”. This implies a third way of networking devices (it currently says 0 connected). I have a Deco Wi-Fi 6 mesh router and was wondering if they could be interconnected by something other than an ethnet cable. Is this something that is currently implemented or is it just a planned feature for a future expansion?On their product page (https://www.t-mobile.com/isp/gateway) where it lists device features, it also says “Mesh expandable Yes”, but I haven’t found any details about this in the documentation.

E-mail to SMS spam blocking

We have been using the tmomail.net e-mail to SMS gateway to send notifications for voicemails received by our corporate PBX. Sometime within the past few days, these messages started to get blocked. We are getting a 550 failure code with a "rejecting banned content" description. There have been some other threads that mention that we can get our domain whitelisted. @srickar has helped others in the past with this, so I have requested to follow him so that I can direct message him our details. The other threads have been closed, which is why I have started a new thread. The most recent thread was answered with a solution to use an SMS short code to send out such notifications. This is probably not an acceptable solution to most customers on this forum, as it costs $1000/mo to maintain a short code.

I am not receiving verification texts. My bank requires verification and I never receive the texts I have to use email. How do fix this?

Home Internet Static IP

Is it possible to get a static IP with the 5G Home Internet service? Normally I wouldn’t need it but since my connection dies at least once a week I get a new IP every time my modem reboots. I work from home and whenever my IP changes I have to update some of my clients’ firewalls.

Data Roaming in Canada Not Working!!!

Help! I’m visiting Canada. I usually do for 4 days every month. I’ve not had any issues until this trip. I have coverage, 4 bars with Bell or Telus LTE or 3G but I can’t get data to work. This is incredibly inconvenient. I‘ve tried tech support multiple times and they have opened a ticket. This is since Thursday and I have not heard back. I head back to the US tonight so I’m not sure they will resolve it. I’m back visiting in 2 weeks for the holidays. I’m considering changing to Verizon because I’ll be in Canada for 2 weeks and no data leaves me in a tough spot (can’t get an uber, no iMessage, no google maps etc). Have tried:Reset Network Settings #766# LTE and 3GAuto carrier and manually select (Telus and Bell)Restarted phone, hard restartWhat else can I try? This is so inconvenient.

Problem With Visual Voicemail

I am subscribed to the Visual Voicemail version 5.21.7.80864 feature on my T-Mobile account on the Samsung Galaxy S8 running Oreo version 8.0.0. Most of the time, it fails to synchronize my messages to the app. I get a message that says it failed to synchronize messages and to make sure I am connected to the data network. This is happening whether WiFi is on or off and I'm never in an area where I am not well covered by the T-Mobile network. This is very annoying because I use my phone for business as well as personal calls and I need Visual Voicemail to work consistently! I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app and cleared the data cache several times already.

Home internet service IPv6 traffic is all filtered even when using a Netgear LTE router. No port forwarding. Plz fix!

My background is in IT / networking and I started using Tmo Home Internet for the past 2 weeks. The router being shipped today to customers is missing very important features for power users - it actually broke my ability to remotely access my home via direct-connection using public IPv6 and IPv4 that I used on comcast. Contacting support for help is pretty much useless, although I have raised a few tickets regarding the major issues affecting me since switching ISPs, namely:Unable to ping my IPv6 WAN address given by T-mobile (to remotely monitor my internet connection) Unable to remotely access my home via my VPN server which listens to connections on the WAN IPv6 address (again, T-mobile is filtering ALL my incoming traffic - comcast, att fiber, other major players in the market don’t do this filtering to endpoints except for spam port 25) Connecting to a VPN server hosted on the internet is unreliable and unstable. Slow 4G connection only, but only sometimes -- SOLVED

I’ve had the T mobile home internet 5G gateway for 6 days now and it has been generally thrilling to get such high speeds after being stuck on a single-digit overpriced DSL connection for 9 years. I often get download speeds of over 100 for long stretches of time, but for me, anything over 50 is great.So I’ve been reading a lot about this issue of how cellular connections work, since I just got a smartphone only last month. Although I’m not new to computers, and have been doing that for 50 years, starting with programming mainframes in college, but not as a profession. I was also on the internet starting in 1992.In my rural area I am 5 miles from the only tower I connect to regularly, and have a signal strength of either 2 bars or 3 bars, depending where I place the gateway. I used a free tower mapper app to know I connect to only one tower and find out exactly where it is located so I could better orient the gateway.However, I connect at three different band combinations, one which is

tmobile home internet speed issues

I just got this and once or twice I got 50mbps for a minute or two but the rest of the time 1-3mbps download and 15mbps upload.Cant figure this out and not many settings to change. Been on hold for customer support for an hour yesterday and today and can't get through.. any ideas? Thank you

Limit data usage

Folks,Looking for a way to block data usage at certain times for my kid. We have unlimited data, and he uses it late into the night.Yes, I know the old fashioned way of taking the phone away would work &#128522 , but he stays up later than me and I don't mind that, but I want him in bed by say midnight, and I want to cut off his data usage.Family Allowances DOES NOT stop data usage as far as I can tell. I already have that turned on.I may have to go back to limited data since at least that would stop him.Barring the above, is there a way to turn off his hotspot/tethering? There seems to be a way for T-Mobile to do this centrally since they can control the data limit for it...Thanks in advance!

Being charged for phone after returning back to Assurant...

Hi there,I'm having a really stressful time right now getting the run around from T-Mobile and Assurant regarding a phone claim I have. The Merchant Return Labal states: PERMIT NO. 395 LANCASTER, PA Assurant YORK PA, 17402 625 WILLOW SPRINGS LANE STE A; RMA # 405-32835102-3.I've been charged 300$ on my phone bill, despite returning this phone almost a month ago. When I call up Assurant they state the warehouse still hasn't recieved it. I feel like I'm being taken advantage of for a mistake on Assurant's end, and T Mobile says they can't refund the money on my bill. I'm literally at a loss for words, I sent it and feel like it's 100% their responsibility for not receiving it, what should I do?

V60 ThinQ Dual Screen: Phone goes to mute while on speaker

My husband and I both have these phones now and it's happening with both of them. Scenario: My phone is sitting on my desk (not in my hand), on speaker and I am having a conversation. Then, the other person can't hear me (as if it was on mute)...the mute is actually not enabled but the only way for them to again hear me is for me to take it off speaker. This is very frustrating and the fact it's happened to both of us is making me wonder if there's a setting issue or it's just a problem with these models.

Cellspot incompatible with Spectrum (Charter, Brighthouse, TW)

After two years my cellspot would not sync. I returned it and was sent another V.1 although I requested a V.2. I spoke with a tech advisor at T-Mobile last night and he confirmed that Spectrum Cable and similar companies have been doing digital upgrades across the country rendering existing Cellspots incompatible. I was told that they are awaiting parameters from the Spectrum so that the cellspots can work again.FYI: The Tech advisor said it was possible that it would sync after a few days if I left it on and didn't reset anything on the modem, router or cellspot. Anyone else having this problem ?When returning a cellspot, the instructions indicate you can send it back via a UPS shipping label or to a T-Mobile store. The latter was not possible as this was tried yesterday. Apparently they cannot input a device that did not come from their store since they did not have a code for the main warehouse and could not get one from customer service.

Why is 5G so slow?

Got a new Galaxy A32 5G phone from T-mobile recently and was surprised that with maximum bars 5G reception, I’m only seeing download speeds of 17-20Mbps. That is only slightly better than what I was getting with 2G.
