on a family plan and the phones are suspended because the bill is past due but I only want to pay for individual lines to be turned back on. is that possible?

Great question! If the service is suspended for non-payment, the entire bill for all lines would need to be paid in order to resume service. Depending on your eligibility, you may be able to set up a payment arrangement to resume your service and give you additional time to pay if you need it 😊 Check out the steps for setting up a payment arrangement here.
