Billing Question

I started receiving service after migrating from Sprint on July 5. I was expecting to pay for my first month of service about a month later.About a week later I received a bill for monthly service, due July 26.  The billing period stated on the invoice was for July 6 to August 6, or for a period of about 3 weeks in the future. When I was with Sprint we paid for services received rather than prepaying for services.  At best, I am prepaying for a minimum of 10 days services.  Does this payment due in the middle of a billing cycle seem correct to any of you?

To me this is like going to a restaurant and getting asked to pay for the meal after drinks and appetizer but before getting the entree and desert.
