Yesterday I was scammed on Facebook marketplace. I responded to someone I thought was interested in a listed item and asked me to respond with a code number they texted me which then gave them my phone number. They then disappeared. I googled and found out it was likely someone trying to get my personal information starting with my phone number. Today I sent a text to a friend and my name didn’t appear. Instead, it showed my full phone number ending with tmomail.net. A google search indicated someone may be trying to get more personal, banking, credit, etc. info. Texted my wife and another person and the texts went through normally. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

This exact thing happened to me also.

The gist of the scam is that they are able to use your number to call or text others by it showing as you if you followed through the supposed "Security" with sending a code to them.

I immediately called T-Mobile and changed my cell number.

That scam was brand new at the time.

If this happens to you, change your number.

T-Mobile allows a 1 time free number change.
