T-Mobile connect service gap question

I was trialing t-mobile connect for a month and purchased the sim card and activated it for the $15 dollars (usage charge).  At the end of the 30 days (January 6th) I decided to not renew because of other commitments I had.  I went online and looked to re-activate which it was willing to do but then it said my next payment would be February 6th. 

Does this mean that by letting the service lapse (deliberately) that If I were to renew today January 23rd and pay the $15 dollars that I would then have to pay another $15 dollars on Feb 6th or does the renewal date move based on the renewal date?

Just curious - I am a long time Verizon Wireless customer and am looking for options which is why I am experimenting with the service and what better way to test signal strength and voice quality than with a low monthly rate.
