T-mobile sent me to collections without notice for a bill I have already paid!!

I am appalled.  I paid my last bill and cancelled my T-mobile account.  Now, T-Mobile just had a collections agency send me a bill for my last payment.  I am in the middle of applying for a loan and this is INCREDIBLY damaging.  I tried calling T mobile and nobody picked up for 3 hours.  I demand some kind of explanation for why this is happening and for this to be written off immediately.  


EDIT: Finally got to a sales rep, who said she will send me over to the appropriate personnel and then hung up.  No “appropriate personnel” picked up or called back after.  What is going on?
