It depends on why you want to print them.  For legal reasons, screenshots are always best outside of actually taking the device with you to show them directly on the device.  If just for the sake of preserving them.  There are apps that can backup your text messages to various formats, like SMS Backup and Restore for Android.  Check the store for the platform you are on for apps that preserve them in the way you want them.
