TMo is and native visual voicemail

I don't want to use TMo's app.  I'm sure it'll just have ads or do data collection or just otherwise be bad -- it only has 3.5 stars in the play store and looks to be filled with bugs.  You guys suck for dropping support of the built in android voicemail feature which worked just fine.

Ugh.  Stuff like this, my terrible reception at home, and the sprint merger make me think more and more about switching -- and I've been a t-mo customer for 15 years!

If Tmobiles voicemail app doesn't work for you then you can grab a 3rd party voicemail app with its own voicemail from the Google Play Store and set it up and it'll work to get voicemails when you don't answer when people call you on your TMobile number.

just an FYI to anyone looking.

I have two Pixel 5’s working with visual voicemail natively in the google dialer.

I had both of the phones lines forwarding calls (provisional forwarding or something like that) to my google voice.  Here’s how I got it working natively on 4/28/2022:

1) go into google voice --> hamburger menu --> settings --> device & numbers --> and delete the linked number and also everything else in there (I'm not sure this step is needed but it worked for me)
2) go to the phone dialer and send the following code: ##004# (then wait for the success message that it worked, took about 15 or so seconds to get confirmation). I rebooted. Then the visual voicemails started appearing natively in the phone dialer.
3) For my wife's phone, for some reason the visual voicemail icon on the bottom right was not there, but then suddenly appeared after rebooting and waiting a few minutes. I also wasn't getting messages, so I sent the ##004# code again, and then it started working. Again, no idea if that did anything but it started working! Good luck!

4) Profit!

Not sure if you found a fix but I had the exact same problem with the oneplus 9 pro.

Visual voicemail is NOT needed.  I believe they just say that so some people will eventually sign up for premium services.

Here is what worked… Tmobile tech support needs to completely reset your voicemail.  You will lose any saved voicemail messages.  Then reboot your phone and now voicemail notification now shows up on the top of the phone display as a little blue phone icon, just to the right of the time.  It just took me 2 hours of tech support for them to comprehend the problem and then fix this.  Again, visual voicemail is NOT needed.

I bought an unlocked 1+ N10 5G and noticed my native VVM didn’t work. Led me to this thread. Decided to grab my also unlocked but cracked screen pixel 3a and insert my sim. VVM instantly came through the native app. Sim back in oneplus and no VVM.

I’m gonna say it’s either older Android OS issue or Oneplus and others issue. I could flash 10 on the pixel and test but alas i have real work to do now.

EDIT: it was also working on my 4a 5G but i gave that to my wife and shes on verizon.

I have my from Google. I frequently switch devices and only buy unlocked. My VVM I didn't have a problem so far. I just switched over to the Max plan today and it still works.

Plan is Tmobile One all-in.

Unlocked (not bought from tmobile). Which honestly I think the unlocked part is the issue based on what I’ve gathered, if it’s bought from them it seems to be fine.

It must be Tmobile’s way of punishing for not paying them more. The Uncarrier.

I still don’t have a problem with my Pixel devices.  Exactly what plans are you guys on?

I called T-Mobile customer service and asked for removing and adding my voicemail back. But same problem again.

I'm ready to switch to any other carrier. Done with this incompetent company.

They removed voicemail from my number completely. When they set it up again there was only one option instead of two.

I’ve had this problem for over a year, right around when they upgraded the voicemail system. After tons of calls over the year, today I finally spoke with someone who fixed it. My issue was related to the wrong voicemail on my account. Apparently enhanced voicemail was on the account, but also visual voicemail. With the new voicemail system they are bundled together. Once they completely removed my voicemail and I re-setup it up everything worked exactly as it should. Transcription and visual voicemail in the native android app. Pixel 3, 3a, and now Pixel 4 unbranded - They are all working. Will be testing with Essential Phone later today as well.

RICCANET - what exactly do you ask the tech to do, delete your voicemail settings? Set up Visual Voicemail but not Enhanced? Or other way around? Looking for more information to give to the Tmo techs. Thanks!

Which phone did you get this to work on?

Tidbits is right. Google Pixel and OnePlus you can get it working but LG and Samsung you're stuck. If you install Visual Voicemail app and setup, then uninstall and reboot, the native app shows in the stock dialer

That's great, I'm glad it still works. It's not a firmware or Android issue.

When you install the TMobile Visual Voicemail app there is a delay while they "activate" your voicemail, which I assume means they switch your number from the servers/providers that are compatible with the native calling app to the new godforsaken servers/provider which may or may not work with your phone.

Unfortunately, uninstalling the app does not change the message routing back it just guarantees that your voicemail is magenta forever.

This has been debunked as I tried this in another thread or was it this one and it still worked fine for my Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 that I purchased from Google(unlocked).  I am using an iPhone right now, but when the Pixel 5 comes out I may switch to that one or possibly a different Android device.  I only like to buy unlocked devices.

I'm fed up with them blocking Native visual voicemail. I'm going to draft a petition to get this changed.

My post was more directed to the individual who seems to be supporting T-Mobile (Possible employee). My new Voice mail message says " Do not leave a message because T-Mobile sucks and I will not get your message". I hate apple products  and do not want an iPhone,  Not a single person I have spoken with from T-Mobile will admit they are aware of the problem, including employees at the local store.  Been with T-Mobile since 2007, but every time you changed plans over the years, they can only see you have been with them since the last change, another stupid corporate screw up.  This has gotten me so pissed, I should sue them for my blood pressure increase. Even their own app didn't work on my phone, Running Oreo 8.1.

The only phones that TMobile aren't doing this to are iPhones.

It sucks TMo is disabling android native visual voicemail

reply from dbwchas in Android products - View the full discussion

My VVM just quit Oct 1st. I have had VVM since 2011. On Moto G4 Plus I had gotten the texts before but never installed the T-Mobile App.  I was unaware it had quit until someone told me they left me a voice mail, when I called in I had 19 messages.  Here are you links and statements for PROOF from T-Mobile Plus a picture of the TEXT MESSAGE from 2 days ago, I deleted the other one that said my VVM would no longer function. I can not find the one for Google Phones yet, a simple search of T-Mobile News releases provided this one.  The $4 charge is for Voicemail to Text which is installed as a 30 free trail when you install their app.

From Google Play App page

No need to change your T-Mobile voicemail number or to reconfigure your voicemail forwarding - Visual Voicemail activates for free at first launch. You can also upgrade to Voicemail to Text for a small monthly fee and receive all your voicemails transcribed into text directly in the application inbox, as an SMS message, or to an email address.

https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1171

T-Mobile provides multiple options for voicemail: Voicemail, Visual Voicemail (VVM), and Voicemail to Text (VTT).

IMPORTANT UPDATE: Starting September 29, BlackBerry and Windows Phone users voicemail will be moved to a new voicemail platform. This move will delete older messages. To keep your messages, follow BlackBerry or Windows Phone messages.

I've also lost wifi calling last year. Have to do a work around just to get it running. I came to tmo for their un-carrierness. Now they're just another carrier. I guess they got the new subscribers they wanted and now it's back to carrier business.

Well there you have it, the official unofficial verdict.  If true, this is a very non Un-Carrier like move.

I guess phones that somehow have working native VVM will be losing this unsupported feature.  Thank you T-Mobile.

Not a direct reply to you rz9. Just wanted to keep the thread alive, seems to have lost some steam.

T-Mobile, any updates or comments on this issue?

I submitted what was there to my friends and see what they can come up with.  They may contact with T-Mobile Engineers for further information.
