iPhone wil not send an RCS message after updating to iOS 18
After iOS 18 was made available, I had downloaded the update on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I was anticipating trying out the RCS messaging feature, I discovered right away that it isn’t allowing rcs messages to be sent or received.
in order to try to resolve the issue I went and searched for solutions. I have tried, restarting the phone, toggling on and off airplane mode, and resetting network settings. NONE of these solutions worked. last thing I did was I checked for a carrier updated and it is up to date. I further checked the IMS status and it shows that only voice and sms is allowed, and RCS is missing. knowing that is under E-SIM, I knew it had to do with T-mobile.
I have called T-Mobile customer care 3 times. the first call, they weren’t knowledgeable on the subject of RCS. eventually I was transferred to a “Tech Specialist” that created a trouble ticket. a second call to see If I could get a knowledgeable customer service rep and I was referred to Apple suspecting it was a software problem. Apple refers me back to T-mobile stating that they don’t have control over the RCS working on the network and that is the issue of T-Mobile.
attempt 3 with T-Mobile consisted of deleting my E-SIM and downloading a new one, which did not fix the RCS unavailability fiasco. I was suggested that I do a factory reset or a settings reset but at this point I don’t think this the problem. Has anyone experienced this problem? if so have you resolved it? whad did you do? if it is all about IMS allowing RCS, how did you fix that? thanks in advance.

RCS is implented through iMessage and Apple's backend for iMessage to work. Not through the carrier IMS. Is there an update for iMessage for you? Even RCS on Android has to be implented through the messaging app to work. Not all features are rolled out to older devices and not as fast to encourage sales of the current models.
The update on iMessage has happened on iOS 18. As for “messsge features rolling out to older devices” I just updated a friend’s iPhone XR to iOS 18 and that phone is sending RCS messages without a problem. The IMS status shows that RCS is capable. On my IPhone 13 Pro Max the IMS status doesn’t show RCS is capable even though the RCS toggle is turned on in iMessage. What shows up in IMS matters. All iPhones capable of receiving IOS, have the same messaging capability.

No problem for me on both 14 pro and new 16 pro. I can confirm:
Messages settings has RCS enabled
Carrier IMS status shows all three - Voice, SMS, and RCS
Doesn’t look like Tmobile is the problem since Android phones have been using RCS for some time now. I think Apple is giving you the run around if it’s not working.
IMS is under carrier version which is under SIM or ESIM. Apple said they don’t have control over RCS when it comes to that. I just got off the phone with a T-Mobile rep about the status of getting this fixed and they said the same thing; that is not Apple’s control but T-Mobile.

Support from just about any company will say whatever to get you off of the phone. With it working on other Apple devices and RCS has been working for Android users for 2+ years now on all of the major US carriers. It's more than likely your device or something on Apple's end. T-Mobile has absolutely no control over what flows through iMessage or how iMessage works because iMessage uses your data to directly connect to Apple's servers. Have you tried performing a Network Reset on your device to see if that resolves it for you?

T-Mobile has control over whether RCS is supported or not. Not apple. All apple did was implement the feature on iOS 18. After that it is the carrier’s territory in the matter. That’s why in other carriers they do not support RCS will not have it on a device that is ready for RCS. So once again it’s not iMessage as this isn’t an iMessage feature but a messaging feature dependent on the carrier. This is what the tech rep told me and publication about RCS says the same thing. Lastly all trouble shooting methods were done with no successful fix.

If that was the case, then iMessage users could have had RCS years ago, but that isn't how it works. Apple is feeding you a line of B/S. RCS is integrated into iMessage. That was the whole point of what the EU forced upon Apple.

@fuzzy i have even weirder problems. I’m on T-Mobile connect and I had an eSIM from 3-4 years ago. RCS was supported in the beta. I then left T-Mobile for a week before coming back. I got a new eSIM, this one supports 5G SA and VoNR. But now the IMS data shows RCS is not there, and my friend who I can even see RCS messages in the iMessage history, is now SMS only

Exactly my ooont. That being said g said, I just got a call from technical

iMessage doesn’t dictate RCS. It is new feature added and turned on via a toggle switch but ultimately it’s is on the carrier to make it work after RCS is turned on. I discovered this when I played with another iPhone and turned the iMessage off and still saw RCS working.
T-Mobile doesn’t run through their own servers when it comes to RCS. Carriers have long abandoned their own versions to run through Jibe. If you have problems with RCS then you need to talk to Google, and Apple.
T-Mobile is collaborating with Google to offer customers an improved messaging experience, fully transitioning to Google's Jibe platform for its RCS backend

The same thing is happening to me I’m trying everything I can currently on the line with tmobile and some head Apple guy

It has been confirmed that it is the carrier. Just because Android had it for some years doesn’t mean it is Apple. Case in point there are some Android phones that have had the same issue.

Confirmed by who? A friend on mine with an iPhone 12 isn't having any issues. Android users with RCS issues are carrier related. It's something with their device.

I did the same thing and that didn’t work either. In a 4th attempt after they allegedly filed a trouble ticket, I was told that it was a software update issue on their (T-Mobile) end that is causing the issue. Makes no sense but whatever.
iOS 18, T-Mobile , rcs turned on in the iOS “messages” app. Rcs fails to send to Android user. It just fails. SMS works fine.

I solved it!!!! I’ve gotten rcs to work on my iPhone 16 pro. Go to cellular turn off your e sim or physically remove it. Wait 10 minutes. Restart device. Then go turn it back on.

Except obviously switch it to off
I turned off the line under e sim iinstead of deleting it. Restarted the phone and it did not fix the issue.

Sorry so were you able to get it or no? I was marked as the correct answer for some reason
