After iOS 18 was made available, I had downloaded the update on my iPhone 13 Pro Max. I was anticipating trying out the  RCS messaging feature, I discovered right away that it isn’t allowing rcs messages to be sent or received. 

 

      in order to try to resolve the issue I went and searched for solutions. I have tried, restarting the phone, toggling on and off airplane mode, and resetting network settings. NONE of these solutions worked. last thing I did was I checked for a carrier updated and it is up to date. I further checked the IMS status and it shows that only voice and sms is allowed, and RCS is missing. knowing that is under E-SIM, I knew it had to do with T-mobile. 

 

I have called T-Mobile customer care 3 times. the first call, they weren’t knowledgeable on the subject of RCS. eventually I was transferred to a “Tech Specialist” that created a trouble ticket. a second call to see If I could get a knowledgeable customer service rep and I was referred to Apple suspecting it was a software problem. Apple refers me back to T-mobile stating that they don’t have control over the RCS working on the network and that is the issue of T-Mobile. 

 

     attempt 3 with T-Mobile consisted of deleting my E-SIM and downloading a new one, which did not fix the RCS unavailability fiasco. I was suggested that I do a factory reset or a settings reset but at this point I don’t think this the problem. Has anyone experienced this problem? if so have you resolved it? whad did you do? if it is all about IMS allowing RCS, how did you fix that? thanks in advance. 

I did cellular went to turn on this line and I switched it to off then turned it back on after 10 minutes restarted my device and I had rcs back 


I turned off the line under e sim iinstead of deleting it. Restarted the phone and it did not fix the issue. 

Did you wait the 10 minutes before restarting, which would allow your device to completely drop off of the network?

No it did not work for me. I marked it as correct answer by mistake whilst swiping at my screen.

Dang I don’t know then I’m sorry I sincerely hope you figure yours out it is super frustrating when these don’t preform like they’re supposed too. And you did “do turn on this line” except switch it to off not just delete the eSIM?

Yes I waited like 15 minutes, restarted and then turned the ESIM back on and it didn’t resolve the issue.

Same problem here.  I have a 13 Mini, on T-Mobile as carrier, running iOS 18.0, and IMS status does not show RCS as an available service:

T-Mobile says RCS is “automatic” and leaves it at that.

Removed and re-inserted SIM card (with a restart), tried all the other “fixes” in this thread, with no joy.  I’m not receiving RCS texts from Android phones using Google Messages - their phones tell them I’m not “on line”, whatever that means.  (They have to re-send as SMS, if/when they notice.)

Recent problem, but I don’t know if it’s iOS 18 that’s borked, or Google’s latest version of Messages, or T-Mobile’s implementation of RCS.  All three parties are pointing fingers at the others, rather than being helpful.

 


This is happening with other carriers as well. However I did speak with a T-Mobile rep on my last attempt to fix it and they said it’s them and that they need to still do software updates so RCS can work with older iPhones. That I don’t believe because I installed iOS 18 on a friends iPhone XR and RCS is working fine. I am starting think that it is the E-SIM itself  and nothing else. Only way if I will know is when I upgrade from this phone to a newer iPhone (no time soon).

 

   They being said, I gave up on trying to fix it. It’s not a nice or death situation and most of the people I keep up with uses WhatsApp, signal or iMessage anyway. Also they all didn’t know RCS existed.


One more piece of information. On my iPhone 16 Pro, RCS works fine on 5G network. On LTE, there is no support and can only get SMS.


Good to know however I did last see a friends phone still send RCS messages on LTE. 


UPDATE:  I reset network settings (used iCloud to save and restore WiFi and BT passwords) and now I have RCS service (using WiFi calling through my home router.)  Didn’t work the first time I tried it, so 🤷.

Can even do group chats with mixed iOS and Android devices, which is a first.  And Android users no longer get an error message saying I’m “off line” when they text me.

Glad it worked for you. It didn’t work for me after 3 attempts.
