I have a 5S iphone that I bought directly through T-Mobile eight years ago. I recently came into possession of a relative’s iphone 12 who passed away that they purchased through AT&T. How would I switch over to this AT&T iphone 12? I assume it will need to be unlocked but I’m not sure after that. Would T-Mobile send me a new SIM that would take full advantage of the iphone 12’s features? Could I use the one in my 5S?

Yes all you need is to get a new sim and maybe change the APN settings.

Yes, the executor of the estate will need to request the unlock. The trick with AT&T is that you have to have the account PIN to talk with them and most customers don’t have a clue what that is.
