As January kicks off, so does the pursuit of New Year’s resolutions. And while enthusiasm levels are often high early in the month, your smartphone can help keep your efforts from fading as February nears.

NYResolution.pngMaybe you’re looking to learn a new language, stay active, or simply get organized in 2020. Whatever your goals for the new year, a familiar sense of deflation can creep in as the months go by and resolutions fall by the wayside. But there’s a handy little device that may be gracing your palms at this very moment, which can help make 2020 the year your resolutions finally stick.

From our T-Mobile Newsroom, here are five ways your phone can help you keep ‘em.

1. Staying active

While staring at your phone doesn’t exactly count as an aerobic activity, there are a number of ways your device can help you get fit and stay active in the new year. There are currently more than 250,000 fitness apps — you read that right! — that can help you track your activity, get workout inspiration, stay motivated and more. You can use your phone’s calendar and alarm features to set exercise reminders or just schedule a few minutes of activity during a long day at your desk. It’s also a veritable treasure trove of media to help make working out easier, from your favorite running playlist to YouTube yoga videos, and more.

2. Getting organized

Say it with us; folders are our friends! From creating app groupings on your phone to sorting your emails into the appropriate folder based on priority (e.g., work, newsletters, social, travel, etc.), folders are the key to keeping your digital life organized. Your device also gives you access to several built-in and downloadable features and apps that can help you create and manage your to-dos, grocery lists, appointments and other tasks. Check out your calendar, clock and notes apps to get started.

3. Learning a new skill or language

In 2020, there’s just no need to spend thousands on a language immersion program or schlep a musical instrument to and from weekly lessons. There are thousands of free and paid language and skill learning apps out there, all accessible via your device. There are even apps to help you log your practice sessions, track your progress and practice a language with a fluent speaker, all from your smartphone.

4. Staying in touch with friends and family

We all know our device is one of the best ways (and for many of us, the only way) we stay in touch with friends and family when we’re not in their physical presence. Still, despite how easy our smartphones make reaching out, we can fall behind on our communication with loved ones. But there’s no need to feel bad for too long! Your phone can make it even easier to keep in touch in 2020. Use a calendar or contacts app to keep track of birthdays, anniversaries, or any other time you may want to reach out to a friend or family member, and create reminders to make sure you follow through. There are also several apps that allow you to schedule emails and text messages for a later date, so you can make sure to connect with your friends and family even when doing so might not be top of mind.

5. Putting down your phone

As counterintuitive as it may seem, use your phone to help you use your phone less. Whether your goal is simply more mobile mindfulness or cutting down on screen time for the entire family, there are easy steps you can take to manage your device usage. To start, try switching your phone to Do Not Disturb mode, muting certain text threads and limiting notifications to curb the urge to pick up your device. You can also track and manage screen time with a number of free and paid apps to help you look up and spend a little more of 2020 in the real world.

Screens are an increasing fact of family life — the average age kids get their first mobile phone is now 10.3 years — but all of us need to power-down from time to time.

Today, our T-Mobile Newsroom offers ways to keep digital insanity at bay for a healthier, happier family life.

With the launch last year of Apple’s Screen Time feature, many of us learned that our current screen time habits are rather eye-opening, to say the least. What’s more? They’ve gone up over the years and are showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

One 2018 study found that adults in the U.S. spend an average of more than three hours and 48 minutes per day “reading, listening to or simply interacting with media” on computers, tablets or mobile devices, with 62 percent of this screen time happening on smartphones. These numbers have grown consistently year over year.

If you think that’s bad, our kids are on their phones even more. Tweens’ daily screen time average was 4.5 hours, while teens spent a staggering 6.5 hours per day on average staring at screens, according to the same study.

All of this is certainly impacting our family time, and may even be impacting our well-being. In fact, screen time is shown to have an impact on everything from cognitive development to sleep in children.

So just how are we supposed to limit our kids’ screen time, especially when adults are spending nearly as much time on their phones and tablets as children? Here are a few easy tips for taking a break from screens for the sake of the whole family.

  1. Set clearly defined limits and stick to them: Maybe this means only allowing three 20-minute iPad sessions per week for younger children, or no phones or tablets in a tween’s or teen’s room overnight. Whatever your screen time rules, make sure they are clear and that you take the time to actually enforce them.

  2. Lead by example: From the studies conducted so far, it looks like all of us, no matter our age, could use a break from our screens. Limit screen time among the whole family by leaving your phone in another room during meals, morning and bedtime routines, or when you’re doing another family activity like playing a board game or watching a movie.

  3. Give your screen time a purpose and vocalize it: One great way to limit screen time is to prioritize other things. But how do we show our kids that not every situation must involve a screen? You can show them how necessary and unnecessary screen time is by stating your purpose for each time you pick up your phone. For example, if you say, “I’m checking the time,” or “Your mom sent a text about when she’ll be home,” or “Let’s check this recipe out for dinner,” you're showing your children there is intent and purpose behind using your phone, and it doesn’t just exist for mindless browsing.

  4. Include designated Tech-Free time in your family’s schedule: Whether it’s after 7 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sunday afternoons, whenever, having a set time when there are no devices allowed will get your whole family into the habit of lowering their screen time and coming up with other fun family activities that you may enjoy even more.

In this digital age, there are many solutions for time tracking and limit setting. T-Mobile customers might be interested in looking into FamilyMode to see if it can help you meeting some of these goals (and more!).

600 MHz is T-Mobile’s newest, most powerful signal -- no signal goes farther or is more reliable. And in just the last three years, T-Mobile added more than 1,000,000 square miles of new LTE coverage – an area bigger than all 26 states east of the Mississippi River. At the same time, the Un-carrier added 25,000 towers and cell sites and hired more than 3,000 engineers. The result is a network that covers 326 million people, almost everyone in the country. The Un-carrier has invested billions to make it all possible, and now T-Mobile’s getting ready to launch the country’s first nationwide 5G network on December 6th.

T-Mobile is keeping a close eye on the wildfire situation unfolding in Southern California, including the destructive Saddleridge fire, and monitoring any impacts on our network.

At this stage, we are not seeing any impacts on our network.

We are currently focused on supporting T-Mobile employees who have been displaced and we are evaluating the ways we can assist our customers and the local community as soon as it is safe to do so.

For the latest information, please visit the Cal Fire website and Twitter pages:

Given the unpredictable nature of wildfires, we encourage our customers to make a few preparations:

  • Update your family, friends and emergency services contact numbers. Make sure they’re saved and backed up.
  • If you’re planning to evacuate, let your family and friends know your evacuation plan, where you’re going and how to reach you.
  • Fully charge your phone and wireless devices, and have charging cables handy. You can also consider investing in a charging device, like an external battery that doesn’t need a power outlet.
  • Make sure your phone supports Wireless Emergency Alerts and that you have enabled notifications on your device. Visit www.t-mobile.com/wea for details on how to set up alerts on T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile devices.
  • Set up Wi-Fi Calling on your phone. For Apple phones, go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling; and for Android phones, go to Settings > More Connection Settings > Wi-Fi Calling.

As a reminder, customers on Magenta, T-Mobile One, or Simple Choice plans always have unlimited talk, text, and data. Metro by T-Mobile customers also have unlimited talk and text on all plans.

PG&E and SCE have issued advisories that due to the potential impacts of wildfires, they may take steps to shut off power in areas of Northern and Southern California as early as the morning of October 9th.

T-Mobile is working closely with PG&E and SCE to monitor the situation. Our priority is to keep our customers connected and ensure our network remains up and running. We have permanent generators in key cell sites to ensure they remain in service and other sites are prepared with battery backup. We also have a fleet of temporary generators that our emergency response teams can deploy if needed.

We encourage customers to take a few quick steps now to prepare in advance of the shut offs:

  • Follow PG&E and SCE on social media to stay up to date on the situation:
    o PG&E Twitter
    o SCE Twitter
  • Fully charge all your devices. Consider investing in a charging device like an external battery that doesn’t need a power outlet – and fully charge it as well.
  • In the event the T-Mobile network is unavailable and power is available to you at home, set up Wi-Fi Calling on your phone. For Apple phones, go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling; and for Android phones, go to Settings > More Connection Settings > Wi-Fi Calling.

It is possible that some T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile stores may be closed during the shut offs. If you are a customer and need assistance with your account or service, please call 611 from your handset and we will be happy to help.  If you are unable to reach us via your mobile but have access to another working phone landline, you can call 1-800-937-8997.

We will post additional updates as able, and you can always follow our T-Mobile Newsroom for the latest.

T-Mobile is the U.S. technical partner for Microsoft’s public preview of Project xCloud, streaming Xbox games like Gears 5, Halo 5: Guardians and more over LTE.

xCloud.pngTwo major players, changing the gaming game.

Microsoft chose T-Mobile as its U.S. technical partner during the Project xCloud preview that will optimize mobile game streaming, which starts this month. Today, there is no way to play Xbox games over mobile networks on a smartphone or tablet, but with a preview of Project xCloud, T-Mobile and Microsoft are using T-Mobile’s LTE network to learn more about the ways gamers stream great games on the go.

For anyone who wants to preview the future of gaming and experience console-quality gaming without the console, on the go, anytime, the public preview of Project xCloud is a can't-miss.

Catch all the details about about the preview in our T-Mobile Newsroom. Microsoft will invite a limited number of players into the Project xCloud public preview -- gamers can sign up for a chance to participate at http://www.xbox.com/xbox-game-streaming.

T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile customers will need an unlimited data plan, a smartphone or tablet running Android 6.0 or higher with Bluetooth 4.0; a Microsoft account; and a Bluetooth-enabled Xbox One Wireless Controller. For more information about T-Mobile’s network, visit www.t-mobile.com/coverage.

T-Mobile customer and network teams are keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Imelda and we hope everyone in the area stays safe as the impacts of the heavy rain and flooding are felt in the Houston and Beaumont areas.

For the latest on this storm and its impacts, we recommend following @FEMA and the National Weather Service on Twitter (@NWS).

Some T-Mobile and Metro by T-Mobile stores in affected areas may be closed. If you’re planning to visit a store, please contact us. Our Care reps can let you know if the store is open for business, or help you over the phone.

We understand that in times like these, staying connected is important. T-Mobile customers on Magenta, T-Mobile One, or Simple Choice plans always have unlimited talk, text, and data, and Metro by T-Mobile customers also have unlimited talk and text on all plans.

In the immediate aftermath of a storm, mobile service might be interrupted or patchy. We suggest the following to stay connected:

  • If you have home broadband and power but no mobile service, try Wi-Fi calling, which allows T-Mobile customers with capable devices to text and make and receive voice calls via any capable Wi-Fi connection. IMPORTANT: If you have to call 911 using Wi-Fi, be sure to give your address to the operator.
  • If you have a connection to the T-Mobile network, keep calls to a minimum and as short as possible. This helps reduce the load on our network so others can get through.
  • Send a text instead of making a call. Text messages get through easier during times of congestion.

There are a lot of considerations to make when upgrading to a new phone, everything from improved battery life to increased storage, bigger screen size and definition of the display or even just whether it’s built to take a bath.

For the average American, though, these gains may not be enough for them to pony-up for a new device: According to recent surveys, while 81% of all Americans own a smartphone (up from 35% in 2011), they are holding onto their handsets longer — three years, on average. With prices sometimes rivaling a month’s rent, it’s easy to understand why some people might prioritize short-term savings and strive to get a little more mileage out of their phone.

But if you’re equally or more concerned about your phone’s performance, forgoing that upgrade could come at a pretty steep sacrifice. The biggest reason to consider upgrading to the latest and greatest smartphone goes deeper than the bells and whistles that make for good marketing copy and on-stage reveals. It has everything to do with performance and enhanced network coverage.

1. Network Is Life

Your smartphone is only part of the equation: While hardware advancements in processors and modems can certainly impact things like download speeds and coverage, it’s the beating heart of the wireless network that makes those things a reality. And upgrading to a new device will help you tap into the most current network technology.

For instance, the latest products from Apple, including iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, all run on T-Mobile’s low-band 600 MHz — the provider’s newest, most powerful signal that travels farther than ever. Think coverage in previously hard-to-reach places such as rural areas and others you wouldn’t previously get a signal, like basements and garages. (600 MHz is available in nearly 6,600 cities and towns across 46 states and Puerto Rico.)

Additionally, an iPhone with the latest technology and low-band 600 MHz capabilities is 25% faster than an iPhone without it, and T-Mobile customers with 600 MHz LTE smartphones get 52% more LTE coverage than phones without low-band. In short, this means a T-Mobile customer with a 600 MHz smartphone gets more coverage, capacity, speed and LTE availability on the provider's network. And who doesn’t love getting more from their network?

2. Better Battery

Since we use our smartphones for everything from waking us up to helping us map the quickest route, we all want a longer battery life between charges. No matter which smartphone you opt for, a newer device will more than likely have a more powerful battery than a previous model.

3. FOMO-Inducing Photos & Videos

Besides battery, camera upgrades are where many manufacturers compete to outdo each other — giving your social media posts an upgrade, too.

4. 'Ware & Tear

Oftentimes, older hardware is no longer supported by software updates and does not run smoothly, nor flawlessly. Plus, around the two-year mark, hardware begins to slow down — combine that with not connecting to the most current network, and you could start seeing slower speeds (if you can still call them that).

5. Higher Trade-In Value

The sooner you upgrade, the better deal you'll get for your smartphone at trade-in. Which can bring down the price a bit and alleviate some of that sticker shock.

6. Eye Candy

Okay, let’s be real — a new phone color (let alone six!) is enough of a reason for plenty of us to fork over the cash. Hey, brains are nice. But there’s something to be said for beauty, too.

It's the best news of the season: T-Mobile will offer the latest products from Apple, including iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, a new pro line for iPhone, as well as the new dual-camera iPhone 11. T-Mobile will also offer Apple Watch Series 5 with Always-On Retina display and the new seventh-generation iPad.

iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max

Apple_iphone_11-rosette-family-lineup-091019.jpgiPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max feature a new triple-camera system that provides a pro-level camera experience with an Ultra Wide, Wide and Telephoto camera, delivering huge improvements to low-light photography with Night mode and the highest quality video in a smartphone. The powerful Apple-designed A13 Bionic chip provides unparalleled performance for every task while enabling an unprecedented leap in battery life, with both the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max offering substantially extended daily battery life compared to their predecessors. The new Super Retina XDR in the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro and 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max is the brightest and most advanced display ever in an iPhone. iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max come in four gorgeous finishes including a beautiful new midnight green.

iPhone 11 is powered by the A13 Bionic chip to perform the most demanding tasks with stamina, and is designed to withstand the elements with improved water resistance and the toughest glass on an iPhone yet. iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max all connect to T-Mobile's newest, most powerful LTE signal, 600 MHz. No signal goes further or is more reliable, meaning customers will get better coverage than before in rural areas and inside buildings. iPhone 11 comes in six new gorgeous colors including purple, green, yellow, black, white and PRODUCT(RED).

Apple Watch Series 5

Apple Watch Series 5 debuts an Always-On Retina display that never sleeps, so it’s easy to see the time and other important information, without raising or tapping the display. New location features, from a built-in compass to current elevation, help users better navigate their day.

Apple Watch Series 5 with cellular allows customers to stay connected, make calls and receive texts, while international emergency calling1 allows customers to call emergency services directly from Apple Watch in over 150 countries, even without iPhone nearby. And with watchOS 6, Apple Watch users are empowered to take charge of their health and fitness with new features like Cycle Tracking, the Noise app and Activity Trends.

Seventh-Generation iPad

The upgraded seventh-generation iPad brings more screen area to the most-popular, most affordable iPad, with a stunning 10.2-inch Retina display, support for the full-sized Smart Keyboard2 and Apple Pencil3, and the latest innovations including the fast A10 Fusion chip, advanced cameras and sensors, ease of use and great all-day battery life.4 Designed to be ultra-portable and durable, iPad weighs about one pound, and for the first time features an enclosure made from 100 percent recycled aluminum with the same strength, durability and beautiful finish as the aluminum in all Apple products.5

The new seventh-generation iPad is designed for iPadOS with powerful new capabilities and intuitive features, and comes in silver, space gray and gold finishes, with ultra-fast wireless performance and support for Gigabit-class LTE connectivity.

The air is full of the scent of freshly cracked textbooks and pencil shavings, and the level of excitement for the first day of school is rivaled only by the excitement for the last day of school. Or maybe field trip day -- who doesn't love a field trip?

b2school.pngHere in the Support Community, we're full of back-to-school spirit, and it's not just because of the awesome deals and exciting new devices always popping up this this time of year! Maybe it's because T-Mobile's Changemaker Challenge is ramping up, and we're getting stoked about being inspired by young people. Maybe it's because we watched our stellar @T-Mobile team #ClearTheLists for a few dozen teachers last week. Maybe we're just really over the heat?

Whatever the reason, we love this season, and we want to share that love with you -- so please share your best school memories with us!

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a "Back to School" memory – we're looking for any memory related to school. If you’re a parent, tell us who cried more -- you or the kiddo -- when you dropped them off at school for the first time. Were you an All Star QB who made the winning TD in the last game of the season? Do you still think about a life-changing favorite teacher? Did Kafka blow your mind... or did you blow up the Chem Lab?!

Tell us! Up for grabs, we have one Magenta-fied "Back to School" kit to award. The Support Community Manager team will review each story shared and select our favorite to win.

Here’s how it works:

Starting today, 8/28/2019, through 9/6/2019, post your favorite school memory in the comment section below. This story can be about anything related to school, from preschool to grad school.

How to play:

  1. Post your favorite school memory in the comments on this thread.
  2. Come back to the thread 9/9/2019 to see if you’re the winner! We'll also contact the winner via Private Message -- so make sure you check your Support inbox!

  2. Open to 18+ in US/DC/PR.
  3. We must receive your school memory post on this thread by 11:59:59 PM PST 9/6/2019 to qualify. Limit one submission per person.
  4. Keep the memory family friendly. We were all kids once – and some of us are still young at heart.

August 27, 2019

T-Mobile is tracking Tropical Storm Dorian, which is currently forecast to bring heavy storms and possible hurricane conditions to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean region in the coming days.

ChrisJeep.jpgWe understand that staying connected in moments like this is crucial to our customers, so we are working closely with the National Hurricane Center to keep an eye on the storm. Our teams are preparing so they are ready to respond in the aftermath of the storm. We also recommend that our customers in these areas take steps now to prepare themselves for the storm’s potential impact:

  • Connect with local authorities’ social networks such as Facebook and Twitter to stay up-to-date on new developments before, during and after a disaster.
For Apple phones, go to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling. For Android phones, go to Settings > More Connection Settings > Wi-Fi Calling.
  • Have charging cables handy and consider investing in a charging device like an external battery that doesn’t need a power outlet.
  • Update your contact numbers for family, friends and emergency services. Make sure they’re saved in a couple of places or devices.
  • If you’re planning to evacuate, let your family and friends know your evacuation plan, where you’re going and how to reach you.

Above all, stay safe and take care of those around you who need support!

Now here's a reason to do the Pam Shuffle: with hardcover copies of #SlowCookerSundayLeadership, Life and Slow Cooking with CEO and Chef, John Legere nearly sold out, T-Mobile is able to make a donation of $1 million to Feeding America to help the organization's fight to end hunger in this country, Legere announced on his #SlowCookerSunday show.

SlowCookerSunday.png"Feeding America is an incredible organization and I'm proud to champion their mission to ensure that all Americans have access to something everyone deserves—healthy, nutritious food," said Legere.

According to Feeding America's Chief Development Officer Andy Wilson, the gift will help the organization aid an astounding 10 million men, women and children facing hunger. Here, Wilson explains how this -- and any! -- donation helps Feeding America fight this truly good fight.

How exactly does a $1 million donation impact people in need through Feeding America?

Hunger is an issue that impacts every county in the country. Forty million people, including more than 12 million children, may not know where they will find their next meal. Because of Feeding America's strategic partnerships to rescue food, this gift of $1 million helps to provide 10 million meals* for children, families and seniors in need.

Unlike, say, buying groceries at a store at everyday sticker prices, Feeding America works directly with major manufacturers, retailers and other partners across the country to secure safe, healthy food that would otherwise go to waste—up to 72 billion pounds of food is wasted in America each year. Every dollar donated to Feeding America helps secure and distribute at least 12 pounds of food. With an average meal, excluding water, weighing in at about 1.2 pounds of food, according to the USDA, we're able to feed 10 people for every dollar. Kind of astonishing -- but true!

Needless to say, we are tremendously grateful for T-Mobile's commitment in helping to fight hunger and bringing national attention to this critical issue. We can't stress how thankful we are to have partners in John Legere and T-Mobile who engaged customers, employees and the public at large through campaigns, in-store activations and the cookbook itself.

A million dollars is a lot of money, clearly. How important is it for people to donate on a smaller level, and how can the average person pitch in and make a difference?

Everyone has a role to play in ending hunger, whether that's making a donation, volunteering time at a local food bank, or using your voice on social media to spread the word. The Feeding America nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 meal programs includes soup kitchens, schools and food pantries. Food banks rely on donors and volunteers to carry out their day-to-day operations. It's easy to support right in your community to help your neighbors in need. Feeding America has tons of resources for helping you find your food bank and learning how you can take action.

Customers deserve incredible care, so we're thrilled to announce that T-Mobile is at the top yet again, receiving the highest score from J.D. Power for U.S. Full-Service Wireless Customer Care – a full 41 points higher than the industry average!

Four score!

JDP.pngJ.D. Power today announced that T-Mobile has received the highest score in the J.D. Power 2019 U.S. Wireless Customer Care Full-Service Study—Volume 2—for the fourth time in a row! And Metro by T-Mobile also ranked highly, placing second, in their respective Non-Contract Full-Service segment for Overall Customer Care. This is T-Mobile's second time delivering a record-breaking score (breaking its own record!) and marks the 18th time T-Mobile ranks highest among full-service providers. The Un-carrier has topped the rankings more than any other wireless provider in the history of the study. And that means Un-carrier customers WIN. Again…and again…and again. And again.

One year ago, T-Mobile completely reinvented customer care with the launch of Team of Experts nationwide, and it's no surprise that the Un-carrier delivers an unprecedented level of customer delight that's absolutely unmatched among Full Service wireless providers. T-Mobile Team of Experts puts customers first with a dedicated team to answer their call or message with no bots, no bouncing and no BS.

And customers love Team of Experts. T-Mobile posted all-time record-low postpaid churn of 0.78% in Q2…that means more Un-carrier customers know a good thing when they've got it and are staying with magenta.

The J.D. Power results show a clear customer affinity for the T-Mobile care experience, whether it be on the phone, in-store, via online chat or easily navigating self-serve options. And while self-service options like the T-Mobile App and MyTMobile.com make life easier, T-Mobile Team of Experts got high marks for being knowledgeable, courteous, clear in their communication and quick to resolve customer issues.
