T-Mobile, PLEASE DO NOT SHUT DOWN 2G! People may think it’s useless, but you need to THINK AGAIN!! Me (and many other people) still love to use 2G on older phones such as nokias. Also, many seniors use 2G on their flip phones and don’t want to upgrade to those crappy 4G flip phones or smartphones. Also, what if LTE or 5G fails? What will be the backup if it fails? It’s not just phones that use 2G, it’s also tracking devices, security systems, parking meters, cars, and other things that might not even be upgradable. It was fine when 3G shut down because everything that relied on it just downgraded to 2G and there’s actually much more room for 2G since 3G shut down. T-Mobiles 2G is one of the last (or last) GSM 1900 network and millions of phones will be useless when it shuts down. What if you’re in an area with poor LTE/5G coverage and need to make an important call? Or LTE/5G is acting up? What will you do? And back in 2016, T-Mobile was basically almost laughing at AT&T shutting down 2G, now look at them. They brought many AT&T customers to T-Mobile so they still can use 2G. Now what will those people do? You can put your SIM card in any T-Mobile/unlocked phone and still use it on 2G so you can use the phone YOU want to use; NOT a 4G phone! But if T-Mobile shut down 2G, you are forced to use either a crappy cheap flip phone that isn’t user friendly or an expensive smartphone you can’t afford and doesn’t fit in your pocket. If T-Mobile shuts down 2G, they’re greedy and inconsiderate because they force you to buy an expensive phone and don’t care about many security systems being useless which puts many people in danger. About tracking devices, what if people lose their pets or something else? The device will become a plastic decoration. If your smartphone breaks, it will cost at least $100 to fix it or for parts to fix it. However if you use an older phone on 2G, the phone itself can cost only around $5-10. 2G barely takes any room and there’s plenty of room for LTE and 5G so there’s no need to shut it down. So T-Mobile, please don’t be greedy and keep 2G alive!

lol you are absolutely right..all the VPs and such like to kick it in here for giggles. what ever was i thinking hahahahaha..

i wouldnt have wasted my time putting what i did as my signature if this were the case..common sense here sport. there is literally zero that anyone in here can do..and by zero i mean 0...as in nothing..maybe you would like to have one of those 2G devices unlocked perhaps..would you like to guess who in here can do that? if you guessed no one then hey..you’re starting to get it.

peer to peer site with Admins/Moderators to keep the site in order only..

YOU ARE NOT HELPING US EITHER! YOU’RE NOT WORKING FOR T-MOBILE EITHER! ALL YOU DID WAS BASH PEOPLE LIKE US DOWN FOR OUR OPINION! Hey, at least we tried! AND WE WILL KEEP TRYING!!!!!!!!

mind pointing out the “bash”..

safe to say you didnt really read my signature under my post or you would probably….and thats a heavy probably...see three suggestions mentioned that DO have actual agents that can put said requests in…

trying to save yall some grief and wasted time in here. if yall are wanting to get more info up the chain keep calling in and requesting it..THEY can add such requests in. in here not so much.

wish yall luck but usually when something like this gets decided on it will take a ship sinking sized iceburg to get this ship to debate turning.

Thank you for being kind and respectful, Fireguy. It’s frustrating to have a tiny, cheap hobby that brings you a spark of joy and no one’s willing to invest minimal amounts of anything to keep it alive. Thanks for your well wishes. I hope someone listens, too. Maybe they will. Maybe I’ll give T-Mobile another ring this week and make a verbal request, too. That can’t hurt.

i know yall want to keep these going but if none of the other carriers kept it (and im taking a wild guess that many complained over on their forums as well) and they shut it down anyways then its almost a safe bet the same will still happen here.

all i can say is hope for the best but prepare for the worst <--best motto out there that pretty much covers everything lol.

Yeah… Just knowing they still have the 2g “technically on” gives me some hope, though. Shoot, at least I said something. It may or may not work, but it’s worth a shot. If T-Mobile actually allows this, though, they’d be heroes.

@fireguy_6364 I am sorry again for putting caps lock on you earlier but I just hate to be forced to use new technology. AT&T is AT&T and they shut down 2G/3G without any thought while T-Mobile kept 3G almost 5 months longer, and T-Mobile recently updated their network evolution page as “Retired” for Sprint’s LTE, Sprint’s 3G, and T-Mobile’s 3G but T-Mobile 2G network hasn’t had a date set. It gives me a slight feeling that they are actually listening to us since they haven’t set a date for 2G when they updated their network evolution page a week or 2 ago.

Also T-Mobile was the one that transferred a bunch of customers from AT&T when AT&T was shutting down 2G. And props to T-Mobile for keeping 2G alive! All they need to do is allow activations again for Non-VoLTE phones again and they will be set and they will see how much money they can actually earn by letting these vintage early/later 1990s/2000s phones run on their network.

My take is, even if all we can do is post here, at least we said something. There’s definitely a demand. I did try calling T-Mobile to put the idea in their heads, and maybe that suggestion will make its way up to a supervisor. Another possibility is just waiting for someone else (another company) to either let us back on or maybe someone will eventually invent a mobile 2g connectivity device, or something weird like that. I feel like T-Mobile’s our best shot, though.

Don’t despair. I do believe that someone, eventually, will listen, if not in this company, somewhere. For now, hold onto your old phone, be patient, and maybe they’ll listen. You never know.

Yes we have to try. Who knows, maybe there are T-Mobile engineers here reading this and with an extremely small chance, even the CEO

I bet you there are T-Mobile engineers reading this, what are forums meant for, right? Yes, we can go complain to the corporate and we should but we should also keep complaining here and hope that in a month or 2 or even by the beginning of next year we get what we want!

I agree. When I worked retail, we all knew that *someone* at corporate was tasked with browsing through both official and unofficial forums / social media accounts linked to the company. It’s possible someone reads this. I agree it’s a simple thing to do, that might work. I’ll take Fireguy’s advice and call, too, but I wanted to do this. T-Mobile’s probably our last hope, and I wanted them to know that there’s an untapped market out there, thousands strong. 💪🏻💪🏼💪🏽💪🏾💪🏿 The 2g dumb phone demand is out there, T-Mobile. You just have to let us connect. 📞

I have been with Voicestream / T-Mobile for over 20 years, I tried to go back to my Nokia 8890 only to find the current nano sim cards do not work with my older phone which I have kept all these years, I have called and the support has been there but the sim card is not recognized, it saddens me that the supposed sunset may happen at the end of this year so I wanted to at least use the phone one more time as I would like to enjoy it again.

I have tried to find a way to be able to get on the 2G network with no success,  I hope it does not shutdown as I have grown weary of smart phones, it is conflicting though as it says that 3G is shutdown and that 2G may or may not go after the beginning of the year, regardless still have a collection of phones with my hears with 2G and T-Mobile which I would dearly love to use again.

I guess I will try and buy earlier T-Mobile  sim cards until my options have run out, I am on my third card now with sadly no network,  I am hoping that 2G does not get taken down, as I do appreciate the history and simplicity of the 2G phones

Everyone in this thread hyping each other up over this idea was hilarious; like a bunch of teens huffing each others flatulents. Y’all are SILLY. Lol.

It’s still running out in the boonies of Santa Barbara County - Refugio state beach - even upgraded since last spring from GPRS to EDGE.

Similarly in SLO County, EDGE and the one site with 3G still up outreach B71 LTE.
