My plan is on Magenta Max which means I’m supposed to have unlimited everything and no throttling whatsoever according to T-Mobil advertisement, but if I do internet speed test with fast.com, my speed won’t pass 2.7 mbps while I’m doing the test with VPN on I get more than 100 mbps. If it’s not a false advertisement why my data is being compromised and being throttled?
It looks like in the fine print TMobile can throttle users of 100 gb's a month under certain circumstances.
Go to https://my.t-mobile.com/account/profile and login to your account. There you’ll find Media Settings, Manage Video Quality - then turn on 4K UHD Video. By default it’s off, then try your fast.com comparison again after that. You need to turn it on for each of your lines.
When doing so, you’ll get a misleading text message thanking you for purchasing a data pass - ignore it other than as an indicator that you’ve turned on 4K UHD Video - there’s no purchase involved for Max plans.
My experience has been that Max is in fact truly “unlimited” except for the hot spot 40GB per line limit when that is toggled on. Nor have I seen any throttling after 100 GB usage.
It’s up to you as to whether or not you leave it on or toggle it off/on. As a practical matter I toggle and bandwidth courtesy, I turn it off when I don’t need it (e.g. streaming on my phone where 480p is sufficient for me).
