I’ve had the G4AR for a few months on 1.00.09 and it has worked fantastically.  Firmware update at 3am 2 days ago to 1.00.12 now results in frequent lost internet connection and reboots (6 today!).  I’ve factory reset the device with no improvement.  Clearly this was caused by the firmware update and am wondering if there is a fix now or I want to make sure Tmobile tech support is aware their firmware update has crippled some devices.

Hi thanks for the reply.  Yes, I did read through that post but they did not have the problems with 1.00.12 firmware that I am having so thought I would make a new post.


@mountainman i am confident that TM will provide a firmware update to resolve the issue. 


Are you using an internal or external antenna?  If you are using an internal antenna, the G4AR makes decisions on whether to use the internal antenna “omnidirectional” or “directional” mode which shows up in the “Advanced cellular metrics” T-Mobile Internet app display.  If the internal antenna mode selected by the firmware results in very poor reception, it could result in an internet disconnection.  This would be similar to my problem with my external antenna and flawed v1.00.09 firmware.  T-Mobile does NOT create the G4AR firmware.  Arcadyan, in Taiwan, makes and programs the G4AR for T-Mobile.  Apparently the Arcadyan programmers don’t adequately check out their firmware before releasing it, leaving it to us T-Mobile customers to suffer the consequences and find the bugs before the bugs are worked out.  So far v1.00.12 is working okay with my external antenna which only has ONE mode, “external”.  T-Mobile customers have no way to “roll-back” the firmware to a previous version that worked for them.  This is NOT right!!!  I happen to be a former computer programmer working for a rocket company years ago.  I made sure my programs worked, and I still have strong intuitive sense about faulty software or firmware problems.  Faulty firmware should never be released or left to the users to find the bugs!  Any bugs that users do find and report should IMMEDIATELTY be corrected, and T-Mobile needs to have customer support that listens and quickly reports those bugs directly to Arcadyan and demands an immediate fix!!!

Internal antenna only.  And it was very stable on 1.00.09.  I really don’t have any options to fix this other than trying an external antenna as you said.  I guess I’ll have to wait patiently and hope for a firmware fix.  They come so infrequently I doubt it will be soon.  If I run out of patience I will likely have to try moving the gateway to a different location to see if it locks more reliable and/or request a replacement/different device.  I have heard that the Sagecomm fast device might work better.  Frustrating!


Still no update.


I have also been having problems with dropped packets and connections on 1.0.12. T-Mobile sent me a second G4AR yesterday, so I’ve been through 3 firmware versions:

 

1.0.2: Quite stable under load, but only 200 MB/s up, 10 MB/s down.

 

After a few hours it upgraded to:

 

1.0.9: Faster download speed 544 MB/s, but lower upload at about 4.52 MB/s. Packet drops under load

 

When I checked this morning I had a second upgrade to 1.0.12:

 

Downloads speed of about 260 MB/s, upload around 3.2 MB/s.

 

This has been making it impossible for me to work, so I guess I’ll be looking for another ISP.


I’ve experiencing this same problem.  On 1.0.09 our internet worked flawlessly for over a month with no reboots or connection issues.  Ever since upgrading to 1.00.12 we’ve been getting random outages and/or reboots.  It seems like after each reboot it’s on a different tower or ECGI so there is defiantly some kind of glitch in this update.

 

Hope they can resolve this quickly or I’m going to be forced to go back to Xfinity.


Same issue here. We were sent a new G4AR and it worked perfectly on firmware version 1.00.02

 About 3 days ago it update to version 1.00.12 and now we are having the same signal loss and reboot issue that we had with the first modem. 100% has to be an issue with the firmware.

   Im considering an external antenna if it will fix the issue until an update is sent out. They seem to be slow with firmware fixes.

  Anyone having issues with 1.00.12 and an external antenna?
