MIMO antenna for T-Mobile 5G home internet gateway?

Hi all - New T-Mobile home internet user, here.  I set up my 5G internet gateway (silver cylinder) this weekend and it works just fine.  I have Frontier DSL and Charter Spectrum now and T-Mobile is currently way outperforming Frontier DSL and outperforming Charter Spectrum almost always.I found this article about installing a MIMO antenna using the internal gateway ports. https://www.waveform.com/a/b/guides/hotspots/t-mobile-5g-gatewayHas anyone tried it?  I would be interested in experiences and results.  Thanks in advance!

Home internet not the option for rural areas that was hoped for.

I live in a rural area an while I am pretty close to a T-Mobile tower, there are lots of trees. I just received the T-mobile home internet receiver and, so far after 3 days, I can tell this is not going to work. My internet is currently through Frontier and I get about 16  up and  1 down.T-mobile had promised me I would get 20 minimum down. Well, it is more like an average of about  10 to 11 mbps down. I have hit  mbps twice during constant speed tests.Sadly, this just is not living up to promises or expectations. It likely works fine in an urban setting, but the signals are just too weak in rural settings, or at least the one I am in.T-mobile is very loose with there definition of areas where this can function as described.

T-Mobile Home dropping Internet

T-Mobile Home service started dropping internet service and support is giving us the run around!   Anyone else experiencing this and any advice before we switch to another carrier?Here is our story:  Really liked the idea of T-mobile Home, so we switch our unlimited cell service from Verizon to T-mobile and then added T-mobile Home 9 months ago.   We were extremely pleased with cell, home internet and support.  Then a few weeks ago it all went bad.   The 5G network started dropping internet, infrequently at first but lately as much as 3-4 times an hour.  Cell Phone - no problem just got off 5G, 4G network much more reliable.Home Internet -  this is a bigger problem, so far support has claimed: Home device can not be change to work on 4G network  Support originally told us routine Maintenance on network was causing problem, this  was not true as it happens primarily at night outside maintenance window. Support then told us “firmware out of date, claimed it would be updated and solve all

I was skeptical, but a fan does seem to help

I was skeptical a fan would help anything but now I'm not. I installed an 80mm one and it does seem to increase speeds once the lower temperature stabilizes (a few hours after install).I only have the fan on low and I have it plugged in to the USB-C on the back of the gateway with a USB-C to USB adapter.Note, the 80mm fan size seems to work best as the air goes in to the gateway better versus 120mm, where some air goes outside of it.I got this fan, only about $11: https://amzn.to/3mFqaKo

My gateway has a warning message: “modem storage overload”.Is there a way of fixing that short of resetting the gateway?

wi fi router for gateway

I am a newbie and not a techie, but I am trying to set up a router to my gateway. I see many suggestions to turn off the wifi on the gateway and use a separate router.I am looking for an inexpensive (under $150) rounter to add to my gateway. (Not sure it will even help so I don’t want to invest too much).I am looking for one that hooks up without having to make a lot of modifications. Did I mention I’m not that tech savvy.  Is there a specific ethernet cable number I need?Has anyone hooked up a wi fi 6 router that just works? Nater Tater recommends  ASUS, any other brands?  Thanks for any advice you can give me. I am less than a mile from my tower, I get 2  bars on 4G and 3 bars on 5G and routinely am getting downloads speeds less than 1Mbps.. not acceptable. HELP!!!!!  Tech support at T mobile is no help. They just keep having me factory reset, etc.

AirPrint with T-Mobile home internet Nokia 5G21 gateway

So I just set up the Nokia gateway and, for the most part, it works great for my needs.  I love that it is $25 less per month than I was paying Spectrum (the only other real option for me in my area) for faster speeds.  The only issue I’ve run into is that, while I can connect my Brother MFC-L2710DW printer to the gateway, I am unable to get any of my Apple devices to “see” it as an AirPrint option.  I currently have it connected to my old Netgear access point to be able to use it which works but I would like to not have to switch networks in order to print from my iPhone or iPad.  The UI for the gateway is super dumbed-down and I cannot find any editable security settings that could be causing the issue.Has anyone else encountered a similar issue and discovered a workaround?

Getting RDP to work through TMobile home Internet

I’ve had Remote Desktop working with Comcast/Xfinity for quite a few years. Is there a trick to getting this setup on TMobile Home Internet? I’m not seeing how to setup port forwarding in the TMobile router, and my Netgrear router which handles Wifi and network access is setup correctly. Any ideas?

Home Internet router loses connection about every 5 days

Hi,My TMobile home internet quits working about once every 5 days. Shutting the router down, wating a minute, then restarting always fixes the problem. I have a good connect with 3 bars showing on the router. Not sure is there are multiple models, but this is a 5G router. Support hasn’t had any ideas. TMobile support says this is not normal but they refuse to send me a replacement router.Anyone else have this issue? I’m ready to go back to Comcast/Xfinity.

Plex Remote Access Unavailable.

I have the T-Mobile router connected to Google Wifi. Obviously double NAT. I get this in Plex settings:Not available outside your networkYour server is signed in to Plex, but is not reachable from outside your network. Learn moreTip: It looks like your server may be connected to the internet through multiple routers or other network devices. Try connecting it directly to your primary device, or visit our support site for more information about troubleshooting this "Double-NAT" scenario.I know there is no bridge mode. I’m thinking some kind of port forward may work but that’s not even available. Anyone found a way around this? Gotta have my Plex.

Home Internet Slow Upload Speeds in 06877

I’m new to T-Mobile’s Home Internet service.  I only have about 2 bars connectivity inside my house (3 bars outside).  The download speeds are consistently >100MB/S, but the upload speeds are too often <3 or even as low as 1.5 MB/S.  I have moved the device to different rooms and into different orientations with no improvement.  Would an external antenna or positioning outside (within a weather enclosure) improve my upload speed experience?thanksSteve

Slow MiFi

I just received and set up a new MiFi 5G hotspot. Yesterday, things seemed pretty good, although I didn’t run a speed test. This evening, the MiFi is slower than the DSL router with downloads ranging from 0.49mbps to 4.44mbps. I’ve restarted it and the MacBook Pro but nothing seems to help. I have 4 bars showing on the hotspot. What’s the solution? I don’t need to be paying for a slower solution than the DSL I was trying to replace.

Home internet IP is showing different city

We just received the T-Mobile Home Internet device and we could not get more than 2 bars on any spot in our house, even tried outside the house. We noticed that the IP location is showing Los Angeles, CA and we are in Phoenix, AZ. T-mobile stated “The T-Mobile High-Speed Internet Gateway is specific to your eligible address”.We wonder whether this could be the culprit since we have a tower near us, the signal should be significantly more than 2 bars. Would factory reset / reboot the device helps?

Swapping out Gateway Procedure

So my gateway took a dump and just keeps rebooting over and over.They are sending me a replacement should arrive tomorrow.Has anyone swapped one out before what is the procedure?Swap SIM’s?Log into annout?Anything special to do before powering up?Looking at my account I still see the old gateway so there must be a procedure to swap?Thanks

gray tmobile 5g gateway port forwarding

I recently signed up for T-mobile internet, and was disappointed that I could not even forward ssh traffic to my Asus router.   I saw that this was discussed 7 months ago in a previous thread, and hope the developers will notice this.  The speed is great, and the same as was advertised in the chat.I would like this issue to be resolved so that I don’t need to continue with AT&T.

tmobile home internet and samsung tv plus

I just received my new tmobile home internet gray 5g gateway. All internet items work great! Even all the apps on my Samsung tv. All except for the Samsung tv+ app, it lags and says "there was a problem trying to play the Samsung tvplus channel. Check your network settings and try again later". Anyone have any idea why this is the only app on my TV that won't work with my new internet? Just for more info; Hulu, disney+, prime,  and YouTube all work great, on the same new network.

Did T-mobile willfully lie to me about it's home internet service?

I installed & activated the 5G gateway on 6/11/21. I tried it for 3 days and since the service was great (50 Mbps-120Mbsp down plus normally 20-25 Mbps up) I cut off Xfinity. 3 days after cutting off Comcast on 6/17, my down speeds have been measured between less than 1 Mbps to about 12 Mbps. Multiple calls to 844-275-9310 number, which are often answered by people who speak with very unintelligible accents, here is what I’ve been told over the past more than THREE months:-Sales lady: Don’t worry, if the 5g tower becomes congested, the gateway will automatically switch to a less congested LTE tower. (false)-An actual American lady reset my gateway and said that she had reassigned my primary tower. That apparently actually worked...for less than a day.-Later call soon after: I was informed that there was ‘modernization’ going on in my area and that my service would be great soon. Also the lady (who speaks clear English) promised me a call back in 2-3 days, which she did, BUT-Verbati

T-Mobile home internet unstable with online meetings

I've been a home internet customer for about 4 months. I'm in a rural area with no other real options. The service works well with streaming video. But I have major issues with Zoom, Teams, Skype, Facetime and other realtime meeting tools. The audio/video cut out every few minutes. I've noticed, while doing speed testing, that my data speed periodically hits zero every few minutes then returns to normal speed. It isn't noticable with video streaming, I assume because there is a buffer for a few seconds. This issue makes working from home difficult since I must attend online meetings. My current solution is to use my Verizon cell phone hotspot during each meeting. T-Mobile support keeps telling me the "tower is being upgraded". For 4 months!? Any suggestions for settings changes would be appreciated. FYI - I have the white box router not the newer grey "trash can".

5g home internet - some sites won't load

My big gray cylinder 5G Home internet has good signal and works reliably. But some percent of websites I visit simply refuse to load via the TMo 5g device, yet they work fine if I use my Verizon cellphone data, or a coaxial cable modem (which I have not canceled service on yet). I am guessing it’s either a DNS issue between my Mac and the T-Mobile cylinder (eg: settings requiring technical help or updates), or a problem in the T-Mo network that is blocking some sites. After spending too many hours on the phone already with Tmo tech support for 5G Home, I am not excited about the prospect of engaging on the phone again. It takes too long, and the agents need more training and support. Has anyone experienced and solved this issue? Do you have technical insights? Is there actual written documentation somewhere that I could access? Thank you. (Honestly Tmo, you need to rethink your support infrastructure for 5G Home.)

I’ve had T-Mobile Home Internet service for 4 days now. Day 1 was great! Day 2 was not so good. Had to call customer support. After an hour they got me back in the game. Day 3 was OUTSTANDING! Day 4 started out great. Then came the clouds and rain and no signal! Even my phone only has 1 bar of 5G. Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, how did you get it fixed? By the way, I’m in Rock Hill, SC

Home Internet and VPN

I recently started using a Home Internet trashcan gateway. I am a data center admin and while working from home, have to have a VPN connection open all day into my employer's network to work.I can't reliably connect to my employers VPN, though. I frequently get unstable connection messages in Zoom, RDP, and other applications I need to frequent.. I'll see my rdp sessions crash and then sometimes the VPN kind of halts without disconnecting. If I disconnect and reconnect then it's okay for a little bit. If I hotspot with my phone, my VPN is rock solid all day. I called support and they had a supervisor downgrade my trashcan to a lower firmware that "works" with VPN. That only lasted a day before it upgraded back to the latest firmware.What do I need to do to be able to keep a stable vpn connection? I love the gateway, but if I can't do my work, I can't keep using it. Especially with my kids starting school in a couple weeks, knowing there's a possibility that they'll go virtual at some p
