Do you need to notify your mobile company you are traveling abroad? I wanted to double check if there is a notification that needs to happen, as was not sure.

No, but that ultimately depends if you plan on using your device while roaming and if there are any roaming restrictions on your account. It never hurts to give Customer Care a call at 611 or reach out to T-Mobile through DM on Facebook or Twitter.
