Geez, you can be fined?! That’s a little aggressive, but I can see folks going out and doing what they want to anyway. On a side note, a buddy of mine mentioned I should take a trip to Canada. This was pre-COVID of course! I’m still collecting a list of “must see” places so once this is all over, I can start my travel adventures again.

If you like cities, Montreal is really nice!  Toronto isn't anything special but Niagara Falls is nice.  Out west, Calgary and Banff are really nice.  More rural, Whitehorse on the western side of Canada is stunning.  Whistler is nice if you like skiing.

The Canadian Dollar isn't doing so well so you get about $1.40 Canadian per one US Dollar.  However, the cost of everything north of the border is a lot more expensive as well.  Expect to pay three times the cost for most things and in most of Canada, the taxes on everything sure don't help.

Toronto reminded me of Chicago but safer. The road trip from Toronto to Niagara Falls was nice.

Only other place in Canada I’ve been to was Windsor and that was for a bachelor party so I didn’t see much of the town.

Hampton, VA is still pretty normal.  I am up in Toronto, Canada for a few weeks though right now.  Things up here are... oddly strange.  The restrictions here are a lot more strict than Hampton.  You can't dine-in anywhere, people are wearing masks just about everywhere, no cinemas, no malls, and so on.  There are so many empty businesses where there was something the last time I was up here.

OK. First, how did you get across the border? I thought they made a big show of not letting Americans into the country...’cuz we’re sooooooo infected?  And ….BEACHES??! (okay, now my southerner is stickin’ out) Isn’t the water a little cold? When we lived in Florida, my parents visited in October and jumped in the pool while my hubby, I, and all the kids cringed huddling against the wall!

The myth about the borders being closed is fiction.  Flights may be reduced, but airlines are still flying into Canada multiple times a day.  From Philly, flights normally are 5 times a day but have been reduced to twice a day.  Philly was very busy when I was there though.

I didn't find the water cold in Hampton, VA and Lake Ontario is a little odd.  It's a lake but Toronto is usually warmer than Hampton during the summer months due to the humidity adding about 15F to the temperature.  It takes a few months for the lake to cool in the winter, which actually keeps Toronto's winters much more stable and mild over the southern side of the lake.  By the end of June, the lake has usually warmed up enough to be enjoyable.  It all depends on what you call warm though.  I like things on the cooler side, so a colder water temperature is more than fine with me.  Swimming in the Atlantic when spending winters in Florida didn't bother me at all, but up here, the beaches are about as packed for what there is as Florida's beaches look.

Yeah…  For the price of one 6-pack, you can buy a 24-pack in VA for about a dollar more.  That is what happens though when the Canadian government is the sole distributor and supplier of alcoholic products.  Gas up here is also $1.30 a liter.  There are almost 4 liters in a gallon.  When I left Hampton, Gas was $1.68 a gallon.

Thanks for the heads-up before I travel. I still want to go. I went to Ireland last year and I’ve been itching to leave the country for another trip. I just want to experience something different, ya know? Gas in CO was low when this all started and folks decided not to stay home more. Got below $2 per gallon, but it started going up which is kind of a bummer. Fortunately I have a car that’s good on gas, so it’s not too bad.

I know COVID’s still taking it’s toll on everyone, but I honestly do hope everyone is making the best out of this situation as they can. It’s rough, but we’re all going through this together, and I’m glad folks are coming here to share what’s going on around their neck of the woods. It’s really interesting to hear from everyone, and I appreciate it. Just a side note, I am running giveaways for various swag and other goodies! Going forward, I’ll be running more giveaways on the Community so if anyone want’s sweet gifts, keep an eye out for current and future posts in the Blog & Updates section.

the county im in has went well beyond the 3 days on the bad kid list without improvements...im actually surprised we havent been shut fully down and back to essentials only yet.. (knocks on wood)….(which is probably fake wood anyways)

I need help! My father in law is in the hospital due to Covid 19 and even though I’ve paid over $900 in the past two months to T-Mobile, my phone just got suspended.  Mind you my husband and I both are out of work since March.  I was promised we would not be disconnected and here we are disconnected.  I’ve been having a panic attack all morning and my phone won’t even let me call 611 for help.

My goodness, that’s terrible! Sorry to hear your service has been suspended. I’d totally help you out, but I don’t have access to your account here on this forum. Have you contacted our Customer Care team to get more help?

If they can't call 611, isn't that something else besides suspended? When we traded over to prepaid and my autopay would not take, I was suspended, but 611 still worked.

I’m now a participant in a double-blind clinical trial of a COVID-19 vaccine. I got either the vaccine or a placebo, and I won’t know which until the trial is over. If it was the placebo, they will offer me the vaccine, at that time.

That’s really interesting. I’m curious, how did you become a participant? Did someone reach out to you about it?

There was an article in the local paper. I called the phone number listed and spoke with a nice lady who said I fell into a category of subject they needed. I figured the risk was low and the potential reward (both personal and societal) was high, so why not? I’ve survived a host of vaccinations, including smallpox (3 times), polio, yellow fever, annual flu and regular DPT, so how bad could it be.

Wow! Are you able to share what happens after the trial? It’s okay if you can’t, I’m just really curious.

Let us know how you feel & if it works! You'll certainly put to rest any worries about multiple & combination vaccines!

Well, I didn’t sign a non-disclosure agreement, so I guess it’s OK. The whole study lasts two years but I can leave at any time, So, I may not have the results. If I got the placebo and stay until the end, they’ll offer me the actual vaccine but I don’t anticipate waiting two years to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Yeah, I hear ya. I’m not sure if I’d go for the entire 2 years. I guess if you really wanted to hold out for the actual vaccine, might be worth it.

Not to put too fine a point on it but I’ve already had one COVID-19 antibody test. Nothing says I can’t get another and adjust my plans accordingly.
