That's a really good suggestion above. Which app are you using? Have you gone into the settings to see if you can change the font?
Android builds should pack at least 3 typefaces, but I guess I’d pick a type foundry I owned typeface uses from and use their app to change default fonts per intent type (s.t. for example Messages would open with a selected font, Chinese fonts be available, etc.)

Bold: Add an asterisk on both ends of the word you want to *bold*
Italic: add underscore on both ends of the word you want to make _italic_
~Strike-through~: add tilde on both ends of the word you want to ~strike-through~
