The December 2022 time line matches with when I started to have issues as well. I wonder what was implemented and never disclosed to the customers. 😁 There are so many elements to this that would be funny if not completely frustrating. For example, I did get many calls from some executive team, and it seemed like they had no access to the previous tickets. In one call she kept asking me what is that “Cosmote” carrier in Greece I was texting to. So I had to educate her that it is yet another Deutsche Telecom subsidiary, same as T-Mobile. 🙄https://www.cosmote.gr/cs/otegroup/en/omilos_ote.htmlBut of course, that did not lessen the impossibility of sending and receiving an sms from one subsidiary to the other...
Thank you for explaining. Do you think their is an chance that the problem will get resolved ? Like I said up until last November I was able to receive SMS from Greece? Thank you again. If you learn or have have any further help or ideas please let me know I would greatly appreciate it. I do not know about the bank codes specifically. I use a Greek number (I have it on my phone as a second sim) for SMS from banks, and that is how I receive them. As for regular SMS from Greece, T-Mobile does not care to fix it. I even had someone from their “rapid response” team reach out to me, and they again had no answer other than blaming the sender in Greece. No matter telling them the problem persists with different senders in different carriers in Greece, and that neither AT&T nor Verizon have the same issue, it was going through one Magenta ear and out the other.
not overly sure. i know that for the most part i have noticed the esim mentioned the majority of the time the issues have been brought up. i know Mexico its been mentioned a LOT of times..something about compatibility and those countries being able to handle them or not. or at least the tower owners/whatnot allowing them or being compatible with them. from what i have seen usually its their network not being compatible with the esim yet. I kinda understand that. Then again, networks in Greece do have esim. Even more, the network I cannot even send an SMS too, COSMOTE, was the first to launch eSim in Greece, and is another Deutsche Telecom company like T-Mobile. :)And as I said, the problem presents with physical sim also.
are you by chance using a esim or physical sim? i know you mentioned a physical sim for the V and ATT tester sims but didnt mention the TMO sim. only reason im asking is i have noticed a lot of international roaming issues with the esim where the physical sim always seems to work. I am using an esim for TMobile, which I also suspected for a while, but my friend uses an physical sim and had the same issue. There was another user here, drnewcomb, who helped me by sending an sms to the same number, and it did not go through. And with other countries, international sms texting works. So, doesn’t that preclude an esim issue? Thanks for the suggestion though.
Try reaching out to T-Mobile via DM through Facebook or Twitter. You start off at a tier 2 level of support that way. Hopefully they can find a resolution or at least look further into things for you. Sadly, six tickets later, four of them with twitter, have yielded no results.
Depends on the country. I have not been able to receive an SMS from Greece since December (and they cannot receive them from me either) but that is not true of all countries. Maybe T-Mobile will one day decide to have its engineers actually work on it. Mentioning Greece specifically does help narrow things down a lot. I don’t know anyone in Greece to test whether or not texting works. Correct number formatting when calling and texting is very important in both directions. Have you tried reaching out to Customer Care to make sure there isn’t a block on international calls and texts on your line? Six tickets over two weeks, with zero result. Hence I even reached out to the community here on a different post if anyone knew of any way to escalate this (they told me they never do--they only look at the customer line only)
You get 5gb of fast internet in Greece, and then it drops to 2g speeds. You also have free texts. Calls are 25 cents a minute. There is also a 5 gb pass for a week and a 15 gb pass for a month, both with unlimited calls included.

The Greek number. Ironically, it is a COSMOTE number, another Deutsche Telecom company, just like T-Mobile. Right. That’s what I wanted to check. 697’s been a COSMOTE prefix for at least 20 years. I’ve got no explanation for this. Yeah, I have been texting to that number for years. Something changed in the message relay path in December, but T-Mobile has been unable to fix it (or been willing to). Incidentally, I do not get incoming messages from that country from other carriers also. I wonder if that is the kind of thing they may eventually fix on their own. Then again, it has been almost 5 months...
Yes, I talked to someone today, but it was no help. And they had no explanation for why incoming messages could not reach me either. That’s completely unsatisfactory. Tech Support should have the ability to track your message at least to the point that it’s handed off to the receiving carrier. What are the first three digits of the target number? You mean my own, or the international one? The Greek number. Ironically, it is a COSMOTE number, another Deutsche Telecom company, just like T-Mobile.

It is formatted as +30 and then the subscriber number. I also tried just 01130 and it had the same problem. Incoming SMS from Greece are not coming either. So. it’s “+30” followed by ten digits?* That should work. I’d try to talk to tech support about this. *Greece replaced the old variable length format with a 10-digit national format about 20 years ago. Yes, I talked to someone today, but it was no help. iMessage has had a lot of unresolved issues across all carriers. If you are on Android, try another Messaging app, like Google Messages, Pulse, or Textra. It is sent to a number that is not an iPhone, so it is never an imessage to that number.
Give me an example of how the Greek number is formatted. It is formatted as +30 and then the subscriber number. I also tried just 01130 and it had the same problem. Incoming SMS from Greece are not coming either.
