RESOLVED - I redid the sequence but this time I rebooted once after removing the update then a second time after installing the update. Now Google Maps is working properly. It must have been some corruption during the port-over from the S21 to this S23 and I assume that after several tries, whatever was broken was fixed by the update. Could be that the double reboots helped :-) Thanks “Syaoran” and “tidbits” for jumping in and helping
Thanks … I’ll do a few more tests and report back :-)
You best option is to back up your data - FR - and test it. If it works then it’s a backup problem if it persists then it’s a Google/Samsung problem. You can put your back up back on you just made. Tidbits - Yes, I was thinking about a FR. I just don’t want to go through the “reload & reconfigure” process again :-) As it’s just a minor inconvenience, I’ll wait for the next T-Mobile/Samsung update to see if it fixes this. I haven’t read about others who are seeing this problem but then again, this is a new phone. As for “rogue apps”, I never sideloaded anything and the apps I use worked fine on my previous “S21 Ultra 5G”. I suspect that IF an app got corrupted, it must have been Google Maps as it’s the only app that is doing this.
A factory reset should not be necessary unless you think you have installed some sort of rogue app that is messing with it. With new devices, these small issues can arise and are usually fixed with the next app update. One thing to note. Did you update the app fro. the ay Store or the Galaxy Store? I have noticed that app versions seem to differ between the two stores. If you try uninstall ing the updates and then updating it through the Galaxy Store, does that resolve the issue? If.not, using ADB to uninstall Google Maps and install it directly from the Galaxy Store might be worth trying before a factory reset. Sayoran - I agree and as this issue is only a minor inconvenience, I’ll wait for the next T-Mo/Samsung update and see if it took care of this. I have not read about anyone else having this issue, but then again, it’s a very new phone. The Updates were from both the Google Store and the Galaxy Store, as it was the case for my previous “S21 Ultra 5G”. However, as I ne
No luck.Uninstalled the Google Maps update Cleared cache and data Rebooted Started Google Maps = still says “not connected” Updated Google Maps Started Maps = still says “not connected”I can see myself in Google Earth, others that I authorized can see me, apps list my location and coordinates … only Google Maps is acting weird. I even tried Google Maps Go but got the same results. The only other option I have is a factory reset, which I am trying to avoid. If something got corrupted in Google Maps when I used the Samsung app to move my S21 config to this S23, how can I completely remove it then reinstall it? Seems like it’s hard-coded and cannot be uninstalled,
Thanks … I’ll try again as I uninstalled, clear the data, cleared the cache = problem still there. Then updated, same problem. So … I’ll do it one more time :-)
Pre-ordered and received my S23 Ultra w/512GB 10 days later (actually before the official release date). Returned my S21 Ultra 5G for the $1k rebate. S21 was approved and all is fine. I had the Samsung case w/pen for my S21 Ultra so this S23 Ultra now makes it feel like my old “Samsung Note” with its internal pen, and which I missed :-)
I am also getting frustrated with my OnePlus 9 Pro 5G - Can’t always receive calls; can’t always make call; doesn’t always connect to my vehicle; when moving from Wi-Fi to cellular, I lose the cellular. In all cases, I can solve the issue by rebooting the phone. I NEVER had this problem with my Samsung Note 10. I even regret the move to this OnePlus phone. Yes, it’s fully updated and yes, I did try a factory restore. When the phone works, it’s great. But these connectivity issues are very frustrating. Today, our daughter tried to call us and I never received the call. When we met, she tried and it never rang. After rebooting the OnePlus, I was able to receive calls. All that time it showed that I had 5G signal at full bars. I NEVER saw this with any of the Samsung phones I had.The only reason why I have not moved away from this OnePlus is simply because I am on the Jump program and the balance is still high.
