it would be an easy way for them to keep more subscribers not in perfect tower proximity

I have no idea if this is true or not...but an EE buddy of mine said that they “may” not provide antenna ports on the routers because the FCC has limits on transmission power, and adding an extrernal attenna may put you over the limit.
