Whenever I type on my Digits web app colon three (:3), a cat’s head picture has been substituted! How to prevent this from recurring?

Try going into your keyboard settings a turn off emoji suggestions. My keyboard does the same but doesn't automatically enter it, see the Pic.

Try using something other than Chrome or Safari.
I don’t use either of those.
