For the last month maybe more our home internet has been insanely slow (3-5mbps down). But our cell phones are still getting sufficient speeds (75-125mbps down). I'm literally sitting right next to my modem and this disparity is happening. Any advice on how to correct this? We can't stream anything without poor picture quality and constant stalling.
It is so dumb that the gateway cannot assign a static IP for devices at your home, such as network printer, NAS and others. People suggest to add another router behind the T-mobile gateway. Adding router would create a double NAT issue. It would be great if we can dumb the gateway down into a bridge mode. I do not need the gateway broadcasting the wifi signal next to my router if that’s the way to go.Open these basic functions for advanced users. WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE DOING! That’s why I rather use my equipment with cable internet. As soon as the 90 days cool down period with the cable company is up, I am going to jump back to cable internet for sure if the T-mobile gateway is going to be this useless.
I have always used my T-Mobile router (ASUS) and T-Link modem with Spectrum service, Speed has always been a solid 230Mbps down and 12Mbps up. Very stable and never had any issues. Works perfect. Zero complaints. Port forwarding in the router is perfect.I haver decided to cut some costs and consolidate bill payees. I realized that TMO speeds via 4G LTE will be no where as good as spectrum, but OK with me, whereas I don’t use heavy bandwidth. In addition, I know that 5G is on the way, thus performance would get better over time.Let’s get to the point:Got the router and was able to easily set it up via the the user interface (laptop connection)- 192.168.12.1. No need for the mobile app. BTW:, when you power up for first time, TMO pushes a new firmware update. I was surprised by the very limited options in the user interface. So I recently switched to T-Mobile Home internet since it advertises good speeds and no data caps. When I first set up the gateway, I was shocked. Speeds were blazing fast. I was consistently getting speeds between 70mbps and 170mbps. This went on for roughly 6 weeks, and then the service became completely unusable. Speeds were consistently below 1mbps and on a good day I could make it into the teens. I called customer support just about every day trying to sort things out, but got nowhere. I finally got a call from an engineer who said, "I should expect varying speeds based on my location" and closed out my case. Not a single person can tell me why everything worked so well but then tanked. I then called and had them send me a new gateway device. I set it up and speeds were again in the 60-100 range for about 2 days, and then went back to being unusable. Average TMHI speeds plummeted a week ago, noticed CGI has changed but TAC is still the same. Suspect a tower adjustment occured.
I noticed a week ago that my TMHI speeds have become terrible and unstable. I went from an average of 20-90mbps down/20-30mbps up to anywhere from 1-20mbps down/up. Pings went from around 25ms up to an average of 45-50ms. I suspect a cell tower adjustment occurred a week ago because my modem has locked onto a different CGI, but the TAC still remains the same. Signal strength has actually improved slightly, it’s just the bandwidth I’m getting is awful even in non-peak times. Still connecting to Band 66, so I suspect the tower isn’t allocating enough data bandwidth to the cell unit that I’m specifically connected to. I’m in a very rural area that is mostly filled with Verizon/AT&T users so I’m pretty sure that it’s not cellular congestion on the tower itself and it would be strange for me to suddenly go from having great speeds and stability to awful suddenly after having a good connection for almost 2 years now. Any ideas on how to proceed in getting this rectified?
I recently received the Nokia 5 G Trash Can on Feb 24 and my services were great for a week and all of a sudden for the last week my service has been unusable during the day despite having good signal strength, not sure if it’s a firmware issue or is the company is lying to me. I noticed N41 had disappeared as of last Friday March 4th I’m currently connected to B2 and N71 however my service is unusable from 8am to 9pm. My current speeds are 3mb down and 30 mb up any suggestions as what to do? I’ve called customer support so much lately but every time I get a personal guarantee that my service will be restored the next day however I’m going on a week without good services and I’m very frustrated.
As I understand the connections for bands, a B connection is 4G (LTE) and the N connection would be 5G. Whether bands using B12, B2 or B66 that primary signal is a 4G signal, right? Also, from the instructions (and T-mobile website) that primary connection ‘must’ be 4G (LTE) and only the secondary connection is 5G. As is in my case, where you get no secondary connection, you are not receiving 5G. Period.And where (again as I understand the product correctly) secondary is not primary - you are using that primary 4G signal as your main connection – the gateway will not be providing you with 5G nor 5G speeds. Hmm.Makes sense really, as the 600mHz signal only travels about 1,500 feet on average (three football fields) and low-lying trees and buildings can easily block the signal.Heck, the closest 4G tower is less than ½ mile away, and I can barely keep the Gateway connected. -Using ethernet cable connections to 5G21 Gateway from 2 Mac Minis, at System Prefs > Network (NtWk) > Advanced> 802.1x tab, it states for the newer Mini NO User Profile, only a box at bottom checked for "Automatic Connection". While the older Mini's NtWk> 802.1x> states "WPA: and my SSID name" for that gateway I'd like to know if that is WPA2-PSK (Personal) or WPA3-PSK (Personal), or the oldest version of WPA? How can I learn this info?- Plus for the newer Mini can one create/add a profile requesting WPA2-SSID or WPA3-SSID? Could one also add a profile for the older Mini using WPA2-Persoanal (PSK)?
I just received the latest gateway and as far as I can tell, it has NO router functions.Specifically, there is no way to change its IP address. Which means unless your local addresses are 192.168.12.x,you must change all of them to ..12.x!On the admin page, there is NO advanced tab where you could do whole bunch of router-related parametersincluding disable wifi radios and importantly, change its local IP address to match your LAN setup.Unless I learn otherwise, this brick (actually black tall tower, not cylinder) is going back home.Please advise...
I’m about to return the new shiny 5G gateway mainly because it is lacking the ability to change its IP address.But I was wondering if its speed is significantly better than the old LTE version.My quick test showed no difference; both got around 150 mbps download.What’s your experience?
New customer. Been through absolute hell placing an order, and getting the device, then it doesn’t work.Two hours and 15 minutes on tech support calls (not counting wait for call back) out of the first four hours of ownership.Saving the further rant for direct main to main office… Anything I can try, before the return ship?
i have a defective modem that i need to send back to T-Mobile. when the replacement came there was not return label in the box. when i called T-Mobile i was shuffled around and finally told that a new return label would be emailed to me. Never happened. Anyone know where to call or send the modem back - it has shown up as a charge on my bill.
We just got our new 5G modem today and have finished setting it up. We followed the instructions, downloaded the app via phone and set it up from there. The WiFi on the phone works great, but for our computers, the internet is not working. After clicking on the ID, it says No Internet, and even when a full set of bars appears, the internet still does not work.We had the old modem shut off and unplugged to set up the new modem, though we have the old one on now to access the internet. We moved the new modem around the house until we got at least 4 bars, but it does the same thing. What ca we do?
