the router does not give you the ability to set individual channels, anyone have any luck in doing so?

It’s very easy if you have the Nokia gateway, under Network.
If you have the Arcadyan gateway, it is more involved. You have to change parameters (such as “Channel”) using a script, described in the following video:

yes, i could change it with nokia but got upgraded to the arcadyan unit. i give it a go on the instruction, tks
