Wireless Home Internet, fast cellphone but slow laptop

I just received my cylinder gateway today. After setting up the device, I connected the wifi with my cellphone(S10+) and getting 200-300 mbps. But when I connected my laptop, it is only getting 50mbps. With both device connected, I tested cellphone again, and still 200-300mbps? Why? Is there any settings I have to do with my laptop? I need my laptop to work from home, not my cellphone. 

I went back to my old house and tested wifi signal with spectrum, and both my cellphone and laptop are getting 200 mbps. 

Please help. Thank you.

First the way your cell phone works the the gateway are diff so don't compare one to the other.

 

Bars mean nothing what matters is the signal quality.

Phone app is a bit limited go to 192.168.12.1 on your computer web browser.

First page expand Primary and secondary internet connection signal all that info is needed screen shot ok too.

Then on the left click Status and again expand Primary and secondary cellular network again all that data or screenshot.

Again need 

RSRP

SNR

RSRQ

RSSI

For both primary and secondary.

And Band for both.

With this info we can help you.

Let me make it clear. I used my phone, but it is connected thru wifi just like my laptop. So you are saying even thru wifi, their speed SHOULD be different?

IF you want true un altered speed you need to check on a laptop wired otherwise you are putting the wifi in the mix. Example I can get upwards of 750 down on a wire but that’s well over the limits of wifi so I would never see that speed on wifi. On wifi if I am 5 feet from the router I get 400 if I am a few rooms over could go under 100 that is the wifi not TMHI.

Second the data on the webpage via a laptop web browser is much more easy to read and see.

They may or may not be different through wifi.  To get close to an apples to apples comparison, go into your phone’s settings and turn off cellular data.  If you have a slow gateway but a 5G phone, the phone might actually be using cellular data rather than the gateway.  After you do that, check to see if both devices are using the same version of wifi. For example, if your phone uses wifi 6 protocol to connect to gateway, but your computer is using an older, slower protocol, that could lead to slower computer throughput. Older wifi drivers on a computer could also be a problem, and some people have gotten better results after updating their computer’s device drivers for their wifi radios. It also might be that your computer is connecting to the slower 2.4 ghz wifi band, while your phone is connecting to the 5 ghz band.  

So there are legit reasons they could be getting different speeds.  One way to eliminate (or identify) computer wifi problems is to connect it to the gateway via ethernet.  If that gets much faster speeds, then you know you’ll have to trouble shoot your computer’s wifi.

I am experiencing the same issue. I am testing the T-Mobile service so luckily I have a backup Xfinity line. With the xfinity line I see consistent wireless speeds on my laptop and iphone. Once I switch my modem to T-Mobile, my phone is well in the 400mbps range but my laptop is only pulling 20-30mbps. I called today and whatever the rep did to “troubleshoot” on their end completely ruined the modem to the point that the modem goes from a strong signal to no signal at all. Now they are sending me a new modem. Both my phone and laptop were on the 5ghz network and same protocol. Makes no sense that all my other wireless devices pull over 300mbps but my brand new laptop, which is fine on other networks, can only pull 20-30.
