There are few things weird.

1. The home internet shows there is signal, but it's not broadcasting WIFI SSID when in battery mode

2. It reboot when lost of power, I thought the purpose of having battery is to prevent losing power?

The only purpose of the battery in the gateway is to assist in finding the best location for the device in your home. It allows you to check the signal bars as you roam around.

It is not supposed to work as a battery powered device.

It does seem a little wasteful to have the battery in the unit when you likely only have a need for it when first setting up the device. I assume you would need a much larger battery in order for it to work as you were imagining. I believe only the Nokia gateway has the battery.
