No support for those affected by the 8/2021 data breach?

So today I got a couple of alerts from my credit card companies saying that my SSN was found on the dark web courtesy of the T-Mobile.com hack. While I received an email from T-Mobile last year about the hack I did not sign up for the free McAfee credit monitoring offer as I have little confidence in McAfee products in services. Well now that my info has been proven to be leaked I would like to avail of this service as it’s probably better than not having it. However it seems as though the offer is no more. I contacted customer service who were intent on installing McAfee Mobile Security on my phone but couldn’t grok that I wanted the credit monitoring service, not the crappy software. Is the free service offer still available, does anyone know? Next stop BBB.

I just checked and realized that I never received an email or text from T-Mobile about the data breach, which is another reason I didn’t sign up for the McAfee service. I read about the breach elsewhere and and assumed I wasn’t affected because I received no communication. This is a horrendous lapse in customer service. Let’s see if BBB can help.

For what its worth, I didn’t receive any email from T-Mobile about the breach also.  It was through reports on the web where I found the link and signed up for McAfee.

 

Please let us know how successful you are going through BBB.

So far I have...

  1. Requested T-Mobile to delete my personal data that is no longer needed for the running of their business (e.g. my SSN, which turned up on the dark web). They clearly cannot be trusted to store this data securely.
  2. Filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau asking T-Mobile to provide me with free credit monitoring since they did not advise me to do so at the time it was available.
  3. Joined a class action lawsuit against T-Mobile. Given what happened I feel there must be consequences. I’m particularly keen to see them punished for not informing their customers of the data breach.

 

Same here, just found out that my SSN, DL number, full name, and address were found on the dark web on Feb 4, 2022 and breach source is listed as T-Mobile data breach Augest 2021. I contacted T-Mobile support about McAfee and they said it is no longer offered for free and there’s not much they can do and I should lock my credit. Will report to BBB and join the Class Action suit. I never received anything notifying me of the breach.

I just received an email yesterday from McAfee that said my SSN and DL were found on the dark web.  I did take advantage of the free year of identity theft protection. 

I agree that T-mobile should still offer the identity theft protection, especially if you received an alert from somewhere else.

I put a freeze on my credit on all three credit agencies. Now I just need to remember to temporarily remove it if I need to allow a credit check sometime.

An update on this…

I have received no confirmation from T-Mobile that my personal data has been deleted from their system.

In response to my BBB complaint I received a call on 2/22 from David Thornton (Sr. Specialist, Team CEO, david.thornton5@t-mobile.com , 425-689-3495) who claimed that the McAfee crediting monitoring service was still available and that I should have been given that option when I called T-Mobile customer service. He promised me that I would receive an email from within 2 days with my sign-up authorization. I did not receive it so I contacted Mr. Thornton on 2/28 who has made no further efforts. In the meantime BBB closed my case so I have resubmitted a new one.

Additionally, Mr. Thornton sent this to BBB: “Our goal is to ensure that we are providing clear information about how individuals whose information was potentially affected can protect themselves. To that end, we offered identify protection services offered to customers, which includes two years of free identity protection services with McAfee’s ID Theft Protection Service, $1 million identity insurance, dark web monitoring, and lost wallet recovery. This offer ended on December 24, 2021.” The final sentence clearly contradicts what he told me in person over the phone.

I have been in contact with Morgan and Morgan law firm about T-Mobile’s handling of the data breach. Their stance has been that they are working for those people who have had their identity stolen. I am asking them to broaden this pre-requisite since T-Mobile’s behavior since the breach has been appalling and obviously needs correction. Where do you sign up for the class action lawsuit, as I am affected by this same issue. My credit report informed me that my information, such as my SSN, driver's license number and address, was found on the dark web as well, identifying it as part of the T-Mobile data breach. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you

Just had a very bizarre experience 

Was on a call with Carmelarose, tmobile support re data breach and my ssn being used by a Mr Ortega on Feb 4th

A day later my phone number was detected on the dark web and i have a terrible feeling that someone in the support organization put it out there as revenge for me complaining about the five T Mobile data breaches!    It’s has really messed things up for me and of course now i have to change my number and exit T Mobile

Same here I already had McAfee Total Protection at the time of the Breach. Like you, I was informed by Credit Wise via Capital One that my SS, DL, Tel number and zip code are on the dark web. At least 2 different law firms (Morgan and Morgan and another one) are signing victims up.

Yep I applied credit freeze with all 3 agencies.
