Poor or Nonexistent 5G Signal; LTE good

My iPad (and my wife’s) drops the wifi signal from our Gateway (Nokia 5G21) Home Internet  device. The signal strength shows 5G to be either poor or nonexistent. Restarting the Gateway and reconnecting our iPads to the network has not helped, and the problem does not happen on other networks outside of our home. 
Will swapping this particular Gateway for a newer version help? Why do I get little to no 5G service?
