Writing from Dutch Harbor

I’m writing from Dutch Harbor, AK, where it’s still slow and expensive.  I notice that all of Alaska is now available for service in Starlink’s coverage map for land service, and considering that T-Mobile already has a financial relationship with Starlink for direct to satellite text messages, I’m wondering if they’d care to set up a tower with a Starlink back end and give a little competition to the monopoly for data communication on this island.  When I click the “About” page for the local wifi provider, they’re listing $57k per month for a dedicated 50M connection.  I bought a one time use of 5Gb (or 30 days, whichever expires first) at 128k for $80. It just feels ready for competition.

Yeah. I seriously doubt it will happen. T-Mobile sold all their licenses in Alaska and relies on GCI for coverage there. To date, the Starlink-T-Mobile deal is vaporware.
