I need help with the ”manage devices” section of the T-mobile Internet app.

There are many devices listed, but their names are vague.

Eg

Device (0ed8)

Why can’t this app tell me if the device is an echo,  or a smart phone, or an iPhone 14 , or whatever.

I can’t tell if I’m hooked up to the neighbors devices or not.

The devices sometimes list an IP address and sometimes they don’t. Looking up the IP addresses is tedious at best.

Thanx,

It's not the fault of T-Mobile. You'd get that same list with any router. The two numbers you should see are the IP address of the device and the Media Access Control (MAC) number.

I'm on an iPhone and use an app called iNet Network Scanner. It will scan your network and then show you each device you have, it's IP number and MAC. You can then edit the information to the specific device related to that info. As an example, your router would show up as 192.168.12.1. Change that to T-Mobile Gateway and the visual to a global icon. If an device advertises correctly, you'll see its name in the scan results.

Anyway, I find iNet Network Scanner invaluable when trying to sort who-is-who on my network. Since the T-Mobile gateway doesn't really let you do anything under the “Devices” tab, this might be the next best answer for you.

If you use the console/terminal you can ping 192.168.12.255 (the broadcast address) then issue the command arp -a to have the listing of the clients. Take the first half of the MAC address and do an OUI lookup on it to identify the vendor of the MAC. Goto ouilookup.com and paste in the first half of the MAC address and the result will identify the device. The network adapter vendor is identified.
