The existing design of the 5g gateway alows for a 1/4 inch area at the bottom for incoming airflow. Besides adding the fan at the top, I also added 1/4 inch high self adhesive feet to the underside of the unit to double the intake flow area. Unfortunately, my gateway always runs slow so that it is unusable. T-mobile told me that they are working on my nearby tower (for three months now).
On the backside of the 5g gateway, above the connections, there is a reset button hole.
Sounds like you need to return your gateway and get another one. As for battery backup, neither T-mobile nor Nokia would let me know of an UPS that actually plugs into the UPS port. I ended up buying a 12 volt 35 ampere hour battery, a battery charger and a 300 watt DC to ac invertor that will provide at least 6 hours of ac power to power my gateway, router, alarm system, Smart things hub, television and laptop computer. If power is out or longer than 6 hours, I connect a portable 100 watt solar panel.Initially, I bought this to power just the gateway for 10 hours: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079HFML55/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_WNKRSA4H2RX3C8RND8ZR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I read an article today, 05/07/21, that says that we will all get the .0178 update within a month.
@Den_in_USA, 2 bars on the gateway doesn’t mean you’re only stuck with 4G. I get 2-3 bars on my gateway but generally connect to both a primary and secondary (5G) signal. I’m not sure where you ever heard 2 bars means 4G, but that’s sorely incorrect. n2itivguy,Thanks for the correction!
Update on APC UPS Back-UPS Connect:After charging for about 10 hours, I was able to stream Netflix movies for over 10 hours. I was hoping for at least 2 hours because that is the longest Zoom meetings that I need to attend from home.
Was unsuccessful in finding the price and availability of a Nokia UPS device for this gateway. Therefore, I just bought a generic battery backup on Amazon. Yes, although I get a high of 90Mbps download, right now it’s only 7Mbps.
I didn’t realized that you can get 100Mbps download speed with 2 bars of 4g. I am getting only 90Mbps ethernet speed with 3 bars. What happens when you switch off the WiFi on your phones? Will they then work normally?
First of all, 2 bars is not good enough to supply internet to your whole household. The fact that you only have two bars indicates that you are getting 4g, not 5g. Even thought there are two T-Mobile 5g towers within a mile from me, I only get 3 bars, so I will continue, for now to pay for both T-Mobile and Spectrum internet. I am confident that once I am on 5g, I will be happy and can drop Spectrum.
It is apparent that there is a UPS connector on the back of the NOK 5g21 gateway that allows for true battery backup. The question now is . . . where can we get or buy this Nokia part?
I have had my Nokia 5G21 for a couple of days here in Riverside, CA and the speed is all over the place. As high as 35 mbs down with 10 mbs up, and a low of 5 mbs down with 1 mbs up. I always have 3 bars and only get 4g.
