Aloha copz1998! Thanks much for your help! I have some new info you may find interesting! (Understatement). But first to answer your question. No, I can't determine, thru any source, WHICH tower my gateway is connected to at any time. It seems ONLY T-Mo personnel can do that. I DID use cellmapper to "look at" ALL of the towers near me. There are actually 2 T-Mo 5G towers I "should" be connecting to - as I previously noted. So here's the new info: researching online, I discovered that T-Mo gives older 5G Home Internet accounts LOWER priority than 1) ALL 5G mobile phone usage; as well as 2) NEW 5G Home Internet accounts!! Yup, that's right, T-Mo "rewards" its loyal customers by THROTTLING access to it's 5G towers! As a type of back-handed confirmation of this, I submit this. I have a new 'friend' inside T-Mo Support. That person went to their boss with my problem. The boss suggested that I close my current 5GHI account and open a new one!!And here's a new development - also with my resea
IMHO, it sounds like you are having a "authorization" problem. What you are describing happens when the signal/connectivity is good, but the gateway, and or devices have not properly "logged in" with each other. (I'm speaking from over 3 years of experience dealing with these T-Mo 5G gateways.)I suggest doing a factory reset on the gateway (stick a paperclip in the reset hole on the gateway, and keep it pressed in for 10 seconds then release). Then use the T-Mo Home Internet app to set up the gateway. Important thing to remember, is to CHANGE the SSID and passwords on the gateway, and then use those NEW names & passwords on your devices. Also sometimes the app makes the changes on the gateway correctly... Sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, in my experience, you get the problem you have - connection, but no internet. Good luck!
I'm posting this for people who are recently looking at this thread. The old silver Nokia "gateway" cylinder is junk - most are the chips used were NOT really to spec and succumb to heat sooner or later. (I went thru 4 of these in 2 years, before T-Mo switched to the black Arcadyan gateways. (These have their own unique problem of frequently losing their 5G connection!) Long-story-short, I have been with T-Mo Home Internet for over 3 years - I had 1 year of good service. I may be switching to a new provider in 5 days, due to continued awful, inconsistent data speeds (10-50 Mbps) with T-Mo. I'm on my 3rd black Arcadyan gateway - they all eventually lose the 5G connection, and I'm only 300ft. from one 5G tower and less than 1/4 mile away from another! What an irritating, frustrating shame!!
