We are away and the modem is down again ( neighbor did a reboot the other day)

can this be done remotely by someone so we don’t have to keep asking the neighbors to do it?

Something like this:https://www.amazon.com/ConnectSense-Automatically-Connection-Scheduled-Controller/dp/B08TN1QGJ3

Or a mechanical timer that turn power on/off everyday at a time when nobody cares.

@Cali Cat’s suggestion is the easiest solution and works well. If you’re away from home right now or you don’t want to spend any money, you can call the customer service number and ask them to reboot the gateway remotely.  I have done this several times in the past while traveling. Unfortunately, this can take some time (my longest was 20 minutes), so using a device to check for internet and automatically reboot can be very convenient, especially if you are away from home a lot.

A timer can be pretty cheap, but if your gateway loses internet connectivity multiple times during the day, you may still be stuck with calling in.  You could set a timer to reboot multiple times throughout the day, but that might be very disruptive.
