I see this problem has gone unfixed for 4 years. I also get “update operation failed”. Go ahead and send me the statement through the mail. I just throw it away.

How hard can this be?
Have you tried calling Tmobile or using live chat to enroll in paper less billing? Luckily I didn't have any issues in enrolling.
I enrolled in paperless billing online and I continue to receive statements. Is there another place to go to stop these mailed statements? It says I am enrolled in paperless billing in my account online.
