Ethernet option grayed out (Galaxy Note 8)

I need a wired internet connection to my Samsung Galaxy Note 8. Settings>More connection settings>Ethernet is grayed out.

I have confirmed that my USB-c cable can transfer data to & from my PC (Dell).

I have tried turning off mobile & wifi data.

I updated my operating system, enabled developer mode/debugging and every other suggestion I could find.

I could use an ethernet + adapter directly from the router, but prefer to connect to nearby PC with wired internet.

Also, USB tethering is on, controlled by “This Phone”

(I just read online that “Ethernet” stays greyed out until an ethernet adapter is plugged in.

So can I share my PC’s internet connection with my phone via USB?
