I’m replacing my broken S21 Ultra with a new, unlocked, US version, S22 Ultra I purchased from Samsung.

Can I use the sim card from the s21 in the s22, and how do I activate it with T Mobile?

Found the answer to the sim card question. https://www.t-mobile.com/support/tutorials/device/samsung/galaxy-s22-ultra/topic/esim

What is the best way to transfer contacts to the new S22 Ultra?

Found how to transfer data. Samsung Smart Transfer.

All the information is at T Mobile Support Tutorials

If you're using the old sim,  you don't need to activate it. The number is tied to the sim.

I tried using the sim card from my s21 but it would not work, until I called T-Mobile and had it assigned to the new S22. But all is good now works great.

That’s strange. We just switched sims on my wife’s Pixel 7 with no issue.
