18 months ago on vacation, I bought the cheapest iPhone at Walmart to use as a backup camera. I never activated the Straight Talk phone service, basically just used the phone as a camera. My understanding is that I have to activate it and use it for some period of time before I can request it to be unlocked.

My question is, is there any way that T-Mobile could get around the Straight Talk activation requirement so I could add the cheap phone to my other three family lines? Thanks in advance.

Tmobile can only unlock phones they sell.

You're going to need to meet the Staight Talk requirements.
