I am not looking for a free phone.  I just want to be able to get one of the same of better value than I had at a reasonable price.  My phone was broken and I’m still paying the monthly payment for it.  I can’t bring myself to get another monthly plan or expensive phone.  However, of course, I need one for so many reasons right now … sick family members, job search, trying to get into a new home rental, and so forth.  Any suggestions?

You may qualify for a free phone and service through a popular federal government Lifeline Assistance social program.

  • Medicaid/Medi-Cal
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps or SNAP)/CalFresh
  • Supplemental Security Income
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance
  • Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance
  • Tribally-Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
  • Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations
  • Tribal Head Start
  • Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit
  • You can also qualify based on household income. If you are unemployed, you can use your Unemployment Benefit Letter as proof of eligibility.
