Canadian carriers have the same bands/frequencies that the US does - for the most part.

I had +200Mbps in NB/NS and ~75Mbps in PEI.  Similarly, in NE Ontario, +200Mbps on Bell and ~120Mbps on Rogers.

What T-Mobile plan are you on ?

I know that since I’m on an old plan, I get 5GB of high speed … and used it in a week while up there.

Vancouver isn't all of Canada.  All users aren't impacted and that thread was also start more than a year ago.  I have spent close to half of 2021 up in Ontario, Canada with no issues at all.

Perhaps, but it could be there devices or some other reason.  More than a handful of T-Mobile customers travel north of the border regularly.  If there wasn't a lot, then Canada and Mexico would be add-ons and not included with more plans.

Data roaming has been horrible for the last 3 weeks I have been in Kitchener, North York, and Toronto. Have called T Mobile customer support multiple times with no resolution. I think I have a 2G connection hear. It works well with Google maps though. Need resolution. I visited T Mobile store in Troy, Michigan 2 days back. That person said that I need to upgrade from T Mobile essentials plan (that I have). I have a iPhone 11 Pro Max.

That might depend on the plan you’re on.  Older plans like Simple Choice where capped to ~256kbps.

I’m not sure about prepaid, but it may have similar issues.

iPhones are pretty much generic - especially for North America.

I haven’t had issues - except when I first used T-Mobile - and that was because I didn’t enable data roaming - back in 2015.  I’ve typically hit ~200-300Mbps on LTE in Canada, so no … Canada doesn’t have a performance issue.  Typically you should be on Bell/Telus in most places.  Rogers isn’t (or wasn’t ) the easiest to connect to.

I’m in Vancouver visiting from Seattle. I am connected to Bell with full bars and nothing works. Very odd. Very annoying.

Do you have roaming enabled?  Does your plan allow you to roam internationally?  Is your device compatible with the bands Bell/Telus use for voice and data?  Bell/Telus are also moving towards devices needing to support VoLTE to have calling on their network at some point in 2023.

You may end up with what runs like a 2G connection on an old(er) T-Mobile essentials plan.

That's the thing though.  Usually T-Mobile issues affect everyone or a specific region of customers.  This isn't the case here, making me think it is either something with the devices of those roaming or their accounts are not provisioned to roam.

Are any of you using devices not purchased from T-Mobile?

I was having this same issue and was able to resolve it by turning on LTE. On iOS this was in Settings > Cellular > Cellular data options > Voice & data > select LTE. Hope this helps someone.

They're definitely having some sort of issue. My husband's data hasn't worked for over 2 months. He's in Toronto.  We have went through all their troubleshooting things via phone call. Calling and texting works fine. Data roaming is on. Nothing has changed just that the data stopped working.

Last time I was in Toronto, was most of October.  Columbus Day is Canadian Thanksgiving.  I had no issues the whole time I was there.  5G though, isn't included in roaming, so you won't get 5G in Canada, even where available.

Does your plan have "mobile without borders"?  Do you have a billed roaming data block?  Roaming reduction block?  Been outside of the us with a us number for more than two months?

Used up your fair use limit of 5GB for Canada roaming in one billing cycle?  These are all questions I would ask my care rep.

Have you ever needed a data pass?

Ooooohhh good point.n def want to make sure any 5g device switches to LTE in voice/data or data options in settings.

Also currently in Vancouver. Visiting from Los Angeles. Latest model iphone. Fully updated. Roaming on. My plan allows. I have perfect service in Europe. I have full bars and LTE at the moment and it took me 10 minutes to load this page and type this msg. It is atrocious. There is an issue that someone needs to figure out. For what it’s worth it’s not just T Mobile. My girlfriend who is with me is with AT&T and is having the same issue. Everything is so slow and sluggish.

That sounds typical of Canadian carrier data speeds.  It will vary by region but still.  Data speeds in Canada don't come close to the what US carriers and other carriers around the world offer and deliver.
