Have you Tried the developer options? It keeps going off on me.. Im going to look into those options now.

Do you think a system restore would work?

its only hitting LG’s from what Im learning.

I woke up to this message on my LG 6 phone: “Unfortunately, LG IMS has stopped.”

I have tried everything, shy of a Factory Reset.  So frustrating!  Not sure what to do, if there’s anything I can do.

Has anyone taken their phone with this issue to a T-Mobile Store to have it checked?  If so, what did they say about it?

T-mobile customer service said to wait for a system update. T-mobile store's only solution is to sell you a new phone. All t-mobile stores know how to do are swap sim cards and sell phones. No other knowledge what so ever.

I just figured out a solution. My wife and I have identical LG Thinq phones and hers was not affected. So I checked every setting to make sure all were matching and found a mismatch. The access point network was missing from mine with the lg ims keeps stopping issue. Go to network & internet> Mobile networks> Access point names> click three dots> Restore default settings. After clicking restore default settings, T-Mobile LTE fast.t-mobile.com appeared in Access point names along with the 4G LTE symbol in the top right corner. Internet, phone, text, and all apps are back to normal. Have a great day everyone!

ok, just used the following suggestion:

SocialCatastrophe wrote:

Go to settings → Apps/notifications -> app info -> three dots -> Show System -> com-lge-ims-rcsprovider -> storage

Force stop and clear data.

This has fixed the issue for my mother’s v20.  At least for now…

At least it took away the 3 second pop up notice. However, I did shut down & restart and the messaged started popping up again. So I redid the above directions and the annoying pop up message has stopped,

Thank you thank you...seems to have stopped!!

Thank you so much this actually worked for my phone sing Android 9 on an Aristo4+.

Both of our LG phones started getting the “LG IMS Keeps Stopping” popup every three seconds starting yesterday.  I followed the instructions on a half-dozen YouTube videos exactly, and NONE of them had any effect.  Then I checked a half-dozen forums and followed all their advice (except a factory reset) and NONE of them had any effect.

Unfortunately, it appears that some folks on YouTube are exploiting this problem by posting “fixes” that they have not tested or confirmed, because all they want is the views and the clicks.  They know that desperate users will watch the video to the end, even though it does not work.

Evidently T-Mobile changed something on Sunday that makes the LG IMS system app “stutter” (but not stop) every three seconds.  That is apparent because the phone can still send/receive voice calls and text messages, and “clearing the cache” and “force stopping” only works for a few seconds before the app resets and attempts to function again -- triggering that endless popup message every three seconds!

LG has stopped making phones, but supposedly promised support for a couple more years.  T-Mobile and LG have been mum on the problem so far, even though it evidently affects just about every LG phone on T-Mobile -- that could be hundreds of thousands.

It is frustrating that the forums and YouTube are full of false fixes, and the minor news coverage so far says “a small number” are affected (which is not true).

Update: I see now that this same procedure was recently published by someone else.

Had the same issue with an LG V30 -- tried some of the suggestions on this thread and they didn’t work. Called 611 and the rep gave me a solution that worked the first time I tried it. It continues to work after multiple reboots.

  • Set airplane mode so that the messages stop plaguing you while you do the rest of these steps.
  • Goto Settings->Apps & notifications->App info
  • Click the “...” menu in the upper-right corner and select “Show system”
  • Click on the app “com.lge.ims.rcsprovider”
  • Click on “Force stop”
  • Click on “Storage” and clear both cache and data.
  • Repeat the previous 2 steps a couple of time (Force stop, clear cache, clear data).
  • Disable airplane mode.

Hope this helps others!

this worked for me…  clearing the cache and data in the settings stopped the ‘every 3 second popup’…   no idea if it will survive a restart, and i don’t plan on finding out, just gonna leave my phone on for a while!!!  Thanks for the excellent insight to resolving this annoying issue !!!

This issue just hit my wife’s phone. Did the obvious things, restart, attempt to close, disable, etc. We have identical LG phones “G7 ThinQ”.  These are Android 10 phones.  Now I’m concerned if mine will show the same issues.  I hope that this is a transient issue on T-Mobiles part.

Same here… I have a LG G7 ThinQ.   Just started today.

LG has folded with their phone division and is no longer making phones. They claim they will keep the current phones updated..  Right now, looking unlikely!  Still getting the pop up.  On my way to buy a Samsung!!!!

it looks like a sim card issue when i took it out it stopped

I did take out the sim card and yes it stopped. I waited about 10 seconds and there was no “LG IMS keeps stopping” message. I placed the sim card back in and it took about 4 seconds for the “LG IMS keeps stopping” message to pop up again. UGH! I guess I’ll just wait for them to figure it out. They need to hurry because I can’t work like this.

THANK YOU to everyone who is trying to help!  It is not your fault that most of us still have non-usable phones!  You are doing a good job trying to help and you deserve total appreciation for your efforts.  By the way, if you purchase a new phone, comment to the retail store why you are doing so… and save the receipts.  This problem is so widespread, it is involving many thousands of persons.  But again, thank you sincerely to all the posters… without you, we would not have evidence of the very large number of people affected.  Much appreciated!

I called TMOBILE for my LG phone and the automated system says there seems to be an outage in my area that may not allow for phone calls to be made in the area. Well duh! I am able to make and receive calls on my LG; its just the “LG IMS keeps stopping” message. I have no problems with my Samsung or iPhones.

As noted above by others, This worked for our two LG Stylo 4 phones on android 8.1 (I think that’s the version #):

SHUT OFF WiFi. This is one of the triggers for the issue. Just use the cellular data capability of the phone, people.  Just shut it OFF, T-mobile is counting any WiFi data towards your limit (if you have one) anyways!!! It’s also MORE SECURE than the starbucks WiFi people...

Go to settings → Apps/notifications -> app info -> three dots -> Show System -> com-lge-ims-rcsprovider -> storage

CLEAR DATA then FORCE STOP.

DO NOT turn off the phone,

Why are these LGs at andriod v 8.1 when everyone else seems to be at v 10 ???

I may be new here, but I’m definitely not new to IT.

I’m convinced that the problem is T-Mobile and not LG regardless of what we are being told. My reasoning for this is simply that my wife has the exact same LG phone that I have which is on a Verizon account and she has no problems at all. A friend has a LG 60 on a verizon account and has no problems at all. I have 2 LG phones both on T-Mobile (for 23 years) and both have the annoying & repeated IMG not working or has stopped messages. T-Mobile says buy a different phone. I say “I bought these phones from you and have been with you for 23 years, FIX THEM. Note: It is much cheaper to switch carriers than to buy new phones and if you couldn’t keep them working on your network, you shouldn’t have sold them to me at your store in DeLand, Florida.

Tmobile says its an LG issue and to call them l  833-378-0003.  Problem is,, I can’t make a phone call.

UPDATE from Tmobile:  Oh my! I can't imagine what you're feeling right especially that you don't have a spare phone right now to use just to have this issue and I know how essential our service and phone can be, but one's thing for sure is that LG is now working double time to fix this issue as this only temporary and this would definitely get fixed in no time. This may not be T-Mobile's issue but we're to help and assure that they are working on the clock now for you. Sounds good?

Are they just pointing fingers at each other and no one doing anything? This just started today so one of you did this. Either T-mobile or Lg. Why is it saying LG IMS? One of you fix it now.

I did two main steps. Turn on airplane mode. Then do

  1. Go to settings – apps & notifications – app info
  2. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner
  3. Select Show System
  4. Click com.lge.ims.rcsprovider
  5. Choose storage
  6. Clear cache, data and force stop

That  didnt help me at all. But I immediately did the next step and it worked.

  1. Go to the hidden menu by dialing 277634#*#.
  2. Find and tap on “IP Version.”
  3. Change the setting from “IPV6V4” to “IPV4V6.”

Find IMS Setting then IP Version and change it.

SO i ended up doing this and so far so good. i did have to do step 1 over again like 3 times until the pop up stopped. I then went and dialed the 277634#*# number and found the ip version option and switched to IPV4V6 and it working. atleast for now.

Still working after about 10 hours.

My K40 has the issue but my wife’s K20 does not.  She is running Android 9.   May be a problem with Android 10

Mine is 9 and it has it!😝

Did anyone get a chilling filling when they read the update above? That sounded a bit threatening like almost a ha ha its the only phone you have too bad for you. Wow!  Where you at?

Tmobile is the problem. Once this is fixed. Run.

Then I suggest you run getting all tech. Glitches happen. I have had very very VERY few problems with T-Mobile in the 18 years I've had them. Hubby has had multiple problems with his carrier and is switching to T-Mobile.

If you don't like them, get off their forums.

Still working after about 10 hours.

I had to go through the entire routine THREE (3) times on both of my LG Q7+ to get the pop ups to stop. But, no longer a problem now. Thanks.

Userlevel 1

Fixed it with LG S 5.
