i have been having the same experience ever since they merged with sprint. i call or chat with customer support and NOTHING ever gets done. they said my s9plus was to blame and its cause i didnt have a 5g capable phone. so i bought a note 10plus 5g and STILL have these dang problems.. yet they want me to pay this bill on time every month. I am with the others that say i have had enough and if its not fixed i’m just jumping to Verizon or ATT. this is ridiculous

I am also experiencing this issue; it started around September 20. I even did a Factory Reset on my Z Fold3, but it didn’t make a difference.

My co-worker also has T-Mobile, we sit in the same area, but he doesn’t have this issue.

Has T-Mobile find a solution yet?

if someone else with TMO is right in front of you and they are not in any way or form connected to your account and their service is fine then its an issue with either your phone or something with your account.

you might be on the edge of 5G coverage as well.. so you might also try going into your mobile settings and changing it from 5G to 4G..restart the phone and make sure its not pulling in 5G still..if it isnt then go ahead and run it like that for the day and see if the problem persists or if it goes away.

I tether; have done so for 10 years. I had connected to Tmobile at 26mbs until last year, page loads went from non existent to on a lucky day 7 mbs. Meanwhile i get Netflicks free. Im moving to another carrier.

so i didn’t read all the replies and I have had this issue with both Android and Iphone most recently the Iphone12 pro max(1 year old) and then android is technically last one a S7 plus tab phone was S22plus. Are you all switching off your Wifi buttons when not on your or a known wifi network? Because as my ex the programmer explained that the phones will always try to first  find a wifi signal then use data. So if always “on”but not connected then you are basically throttling your own signal as well as burning through your battery faster. The dead “spots” are the line between moblie data and wifi trying to kick in. Some may already know this, some may not but next time it happens just turn off wifi and wait a few moments to see what happens, possibly reset the phone ot your network by going full airplane mode. But 9/10 this is why for me the other 1/10 is Iphone or Android needs an update. Both systems if its blue in the control panel, its on, whether you are connected or not. To turn off Android completely just press the eifi button, for Iphone go to wifi settings and turn off there, with apple if the button is white, its constantly searching lightly so make sure you completely turn it off.

It isn’t always ideal … it’ll give you service that can be more stable in weak areas, but throughput isn’t typically as good.  It may keep your device from hunting, eating battery, or going from usable to NoService where its really weak.

I have many instances when I have 5 bars of 5G and the mobile hotspot won't work on my phone. The computer I'm trying to connect to my phone says "No Internet connection.". I also have issue with 4 bars of either LTE or 5G and I can't get any internet on my phone. I switched from Verizon because T-Mobile said that the greatly increased their coverage and their 5 G network. It must only be in theory because I have had these issues often since switching in May. I don't believe it's the phone or that you're in a basement or any of the other responses that make the issue the user's issue. It's T-Mobile 's issue and they need to fix it!

S21 Ultra same issue. Terribly frustrating, and it appears to only happen around my workplace so it appears to be location specific. Some days it works, most the time it does not. Unfortunately nothing to add to help, but this needs to be addressed.

It looks like most of the folks having this issue (phone and/or home internet) are describing when the cell towers are overloaded with more connections then it can manage. The symptoms are:

  • Strong signal but low or no data
  • Strong signal but dropped calls
  • Restarting your device gives you a brief moment when data works again only to lose it. This is caused by your restart putting your device back to top of the data queue momentarily.

I experience this a lot in both dense cities and remote areas. A good example is a vacation spot. Go during the week and no problems. Go during the weekends and your same phone from the same spot gets little to no data even though the signal strengths is the same as the week.

Unfortunately, the “fix” is for TMO to upgrade such towers and they are. However, they can only upgrade so many on a given day and nobody can tell you when your area will be upgraded. TMO want’s to add more capacity so they can bring in more customers. I’m sure the TMO exec is accurately aware that continued overloading will drive customers to other carriers.

Found the same symptoms through trial and error in an ex-urban / rural area (including vacation in a dense city last week) .  My wife’s older phone works flawlessly on 4G (LTE?), but my newer phone on 5G cannot make or receive calls reliably 5 minutes after a reboot.  I have to switch phone settings back to where I am on an Edge tower to reliably make and receive phone calls.

Thank you for the explanation.  The “Largest 5G Network” is not quite rolled out to my neck of the woods.  Wish my phone and/ or the towers would auto negotiate down so I could do normal stuff I’ve expected to “just work” for the last 8 years.

Experiencing the same. Never had a problem at all with tmo for 5 years. Ive used the 5g home Internet box for about a year or so, and speeds often exceed 300mbps. I came home from work on 08/19/23 to find that the the wifi quit working for the first time ever. Went to Google it, and my phone's data didn't work either. It's now the 22nd, and it hasn't improved. It works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. The wifi box works for 10 minutes after a reset. The phones on my plan work for 10 mins after switching airplane mode on and off. The data loads perfect if you're on a phone call. The data works fine everywhere but my house. Got all the generic responses from cust support. The people in store couldn't help. Phone bill is paid. Came to this thread looking for answers, only found that out that I need to disable the 5g service that I pay out the *** for.

*Sigh*

T-MOBILE is a disgrace. Had good 4G service on Sprint with a tower (ONI ID:WA54XC793) ½ a mile from my office and residence. Forced to re-sim and then they shut down the tower, service went to hell. Have to reset all equipment several times a day just to stay connected. Was promised in late July old tower would be re-provisioned by end of August. Just more lies!

Probably listed in terms of service as agreeing not to sue but a class action lawsuit is in order Not sure if TOS will trump knowingly offering for $$$ a service they “know or should have known” are not able to deliver. At stake is public safety most importantly not knowing if you can contact 911 if needed. Regardless a complaint to the State Corporation Commission is in order.

If you live in Virginia search “Communications Company Complaint Form”

I have the same issue with new iPhone 13.  I have switched to 4g and back with no change.  Shouldn’t have to be manipulating settings to be able to get service when the phone is showing good network service.  I did connect after shutting down the phone and powering it back up.  But again I shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to have my brand new phone work.  New to T-mobile and I am wondering if I made a mistake changing carriers.

The interesting thing is my service with VoWiFi was also terrible, and now I’m able to make calls over WiFi too. Not sure what this actually does, but seems to be working well. 170 Mbps down, 31.9 Mbps up at home. Stable enough to use. Still hitting crazy high up and down a couple of blocks away too.

Still, by now you think the network would be dynamic enough to always provide the best experience on the best bands based on connection.

I have the same issue with my android, my husband does with his phone and all the tv's buffer constantly and lose connection on and off. I pay for a service that I am not receiving and it is getting very frustrating to constantly reboor, restart, reset. It dusrupts every piece of equipment I own. I can't tell you when the last time I saw a TV show without interruption. Oh yes I can, when I had AT & T! T-Mobile needs to get their act together if they want to stay in the home internet, fastest provider category provider. My advice to anyone thinking to switch DON'T!!!

I just want to add that I've had this issue since I purchased my note 20 ultra 5G. I thought the issue was my phone until I finally found the recommendation to disable n71. That seems to have completely fixed the issue but my speeds and signal are less abundant.

I have the model with 512GB of storage and the max ram which was not cheap. I hope someone from T-Mobile actually checks the forums because this issue is so annoying and apparently there are multiple users across the network experiening it on all different 5G phones. On one hand it's nice to know I'm not alone, but on the other it's disappointing that such a huge issue exists and they are not able to resolve or acknowledge it.  This problem started after the sprint merger for me. Previously I had nothing but great service so I wonder if it just has to do with how they integrated the two networks with their new available spectrum.

Swap out your home internet device, if the wifi isnt working

I have a couple ideas about this. If you’re in a lower level room or basement, you can have some issues with the connection cutting in and out due to line of site. I’d head to a higher level of the house/building if possible. Restarting the phone on a daily basis can help make sure you maintain a solid connection. If this is happening in the same area and even around the same time of day, this could be something our engineering team can look into after our Tech Care team files a Service Complaint for you.

Im located @ 1st floor in the middle of city downtown.... one signal, dropped 90% of my calls else walk around my condo to get signal. Can not search from internet. I was Magenta single line & can not use hotspot. I changed plan because it is a waste paying the price.. Problem in RESTART the phone is that all my office accnts, VPN, stock trade logins, email outlook with my office and office network authenticators must be re-configurated, re-enter logins  etc.

Tmobile has me in the list to subscribe internet for long time now until they will have 5G internet in my area.... very ironic... i live in the middle if a city! Very frustrating!  Although I love Tmobile... to use my phone, i have to be out of my condo 90% of my daily  life!

Yes, we are to sacrifice...

Tmobile has a lot of dead zones, and unusable 4g lte service in areas that are listed as 5g Ultra Capacity.  Reps will claim that the areas aren't 5g , have capacity issues, are being modernized or undergoing maintenance.  Sometimes for several years (/sarcasm).  These are go to excuses, and yes, their ‘engineers ‘ have even admitted it as I've caught them in their lies.

5G isn’t really fully developed as to 4G. I thought my residence location was a problem for 5G. However,

even in the city center and anywhere, I experience with my phone the same problems. I would rather go back to 4G light that has been fully developed. That is the reason why I can’t sign up with the 5G internet yet. The sad part is that they talk about 10G - for what?

i guess it is nice to know that this was not an isolated issue. 5G and 5gUC are terrible. once i see that on my iphone 13, i know i am not going to get good speeds…

Same here. EVERY weekend and holidays I have no internet at home, since we began to use the 5G home internet box(6 months). Today (10/09/23) my husband called T-Mobile support and waited for more than 1 hour in the line with no answer! The support is useless !!!

5G itself isn’t bad (n71 or n25) typically here on n71 ~100Mbps/50Mbps

on n25 +200Mbps/40Mbps

on n41 (tower specific) ~400-700/140Mbps or +1400/150Mbps

5G NSA (5g + LTE) peak ~2Gbps/150Mbps

My site was pretty much the last site in my area to receive 5g.   Similarly,  LAX didn't get 5g until last summer, while many other locations had 5g UC long before.

Many urban areas - especially some buildings take a long time.  Many large area macros get upgraded.first.

Have had the same issues for quite a while. Now it happens multiple times a day. It always alerts me that I have new voicemail when the network comes back on. I can not use the phone, data, apps, or internet while it does this.  Sometimes it will pop up and say visual voicemail has detected a new sim card.

I have reset the network setting, taken the sim out and inspected the surroundings, reset my phone numerous times, talked to a t mobile “specialist.” They are gonna send me a new sim to see if that works, but I have researched online very similar stories saying that didn’t change anything. So skeptical. We will see.

I have an s20.

Sounds like planned obsolescence, where the corporations purposely make goods that planned to break after so long like your phone slowing down or not working right after the new gen phones are out. It's to force you to either deal with the problem or buy their newest toys to keep the connection good. I wish it was illegal for these corporations to design their products in such a way but it's an effective way to keep the money flowing every year. My phone is now a gen behind and there has been nothing but signal outages even when it claims to have full bars and 5G, I turn on and off airplane mode to restart the Internet and it works to refresh the page but then it remembers it's not supposed to have Internet and switches to LTE! Even now my phone doesn't want me to write this and keeps "losing" connection when I try to hit reply.
