BUT… your gateway may be placed in an awkward location in order to maximize the signal strength. If so, accessing it to read the promo-code may be tedious. I’ve experienced this problem for several instances of “Tuesdays”, but have not found a good solution. Ideally, it should be possible to have an alternate means of receiving the code… perhaps via email or a text to an alternate phone? The current scheme is not user-friendly.
First, I’ll commend JSAVGA for beginning this discussion --- this topic should prove valuable for new users. I am using a similar setup --- in MY case with a similar ASUS router and Windows 7. I have had two TM gateways --- the gray-round one and (eventually) the black-square one. Each gateway was directly wired to my RT-N66W router and all my numerous connections were immediately available. I do not use AP mode… my router continues to use the default “router” mode. I have not experienced any problems with this setup after 1.5 years. BUT, please let me know if there is a potential danger.
Hmm, I’ve noticed a similar quirk --- using an Arcadyan gateway. When using the WIFI ANALYZER app on my Moto phone, the gateway SSID will occasionally not appear. This has not caused a problem for ME (yet) because I connect the gateway to a separate router and use the latter SSID for wifi connections. I sympathize with you but cannot offer a solid solution. Well, I’ll let you know that similar situations exist for others.
I also have a Moto G 5G. My phone does not have an APP named “BatteryBot”. It appears that YOU have that APP --- perhaps installed via Google-Play? I have a suspicion that this APP has its notifications set to either “silent” or “none”. In that case the APP may be attempting to warn you that notifications are not allowed. (maybe?) If you assign a notification-sound to the APP then perhaps your pull-down area will be modified… and then make more sense.
The WHATSAPP technique sounds interesting… but ??? I researched this and found several sources stating that the WHATSAPP needs to be installed on the “phone” receiving the original text. If so, I cannot do that because that “phone” is only a dummy-number assigned to my modem. REMEMBER - I don’t have a phone-account at TM. Please clarify… is it possibile to load WHATSAPP onto my non-TM phone so that it will then receive TEXT-messages from my gateway? I am a newbie and somewhat uneasy when using cell-phone apps. At any rate, I appreciate your response.
Well… yes… the TEXT is sent. It arrives at the MODEM… which is located in an awkward location. I had been wondering if this TEXT (or equivalent code) could be sent in an alternate manner… to a non-TM phone or to an email address. The current scheme continues to be non-friendly since I use a step-ladder for each access. (but if I relocate the modem to a lower/accessible location, then my signal is diminished)
The previous entry questioned which gateway was being used. FWIW - I experienced this missing-PIN problem with the gray/round gateway and suggested a dummy-SMS to cause accumulated messages to scroll-down. Later… I changed to a black-square gateway and was able to see ALL messages… albeit with very awkward scrolling. SO ??? - maybe this feedback will be useful for someone ???
Perhaps there’s a problem with reading the wrong message from the modem… as occurred for ME. My modem retains a history of messages and it may be difficult to identify the most recent one. If you have multiple messages (with multiple/different access-codes) it is easy to read the wrong message and thus use the wrong code.
I had the same problem… my original gray/round modem never received the access-code. After complaining, my modem was replaced with the black/square model. That model was able to receive the 4-digit access-code so I was then able to use the promos for “Tuesdays”.
I used the Nokia model for about 5 months. The signal strength varied wildly but was workable for me --- although the unit seemed to have problems displaying notification-messages. I received an Arcadyan replacement model about 4 weeks ago. The Arcadyan MAY be slightly slower… perhaps 10% to 20% but that is only my gut-feeling. My SPEEDTEST measurements are affected by far too many variables. At any rate despite the Arcadyan speed-variations, it is essentially “workable”.
Perhaps you could wire your old router to the gateway. My own system is setup like that and my old SSID and passwords are preserved. That approach took less than 60 seconds. BUT - to answer your original question, I do now know if spaces are allowed in the Gateway-network.
My own NOKIA gateway had problems displaying messages. The most recent message seemed to be at the top of a non-scrollable list --- so it was not accessible. I eventually used my phone to send a SMS message to the DUMMY-number of the gateway. That new message seemed to cause the message-list to scroll-down. That exposed the message containing the PIN-number.{{{ I realize this is an OLD topic but perhaps this procedure may be helpful for others? }}}
I also had problems accessing messages… using my Nokia gateway. After scrolling through the list of previous messages, the most recent message seemed to be at the top of a non-scrollable list --- and non-viewable. I eventually used my phone to send a SMS message to the DUMMY-number of the gateway. That new message seemed to cause the message-list to scroll-down --- exposing the one of interest.{{{ I realize this is an OLD topic but perhaps this procedure may be helpful for others? }}}
You were originally issued a DUMMY phone number --- used solely for internal T-Mobile purposes. If you dig through the online account information, you should be able to find that number. Like you, I also do not have a TM phone --- and my number happens to be 737-nnn-nnnn --- which does not correspond to any other number of mine. If you have problems locating your DUMMY number, perhaps an online CHAT could provide this to you?
I sympathize with you. I have spent many hours chasing these problems --- and may have resolved them. First of all, you need to “register” your phone for the TUESDAYS promos… using the TUESDAYS app on your cell-phone. (yes - this is complicated if you do not have a TMobile phone) Once registered, your (non-TM) phone should be able to access and redeem offers while away from the gateway. So --- begin by installing the TM TUESDAYS app. You should then use your phone to log-in using your DUMMY TM number. That DUMMY-number is the one used for TM’s accounting purposes. Do not use the native number of your cell-phone. A message indicating a PIN-number should then be automatically sent. This PIN should be received by your gateway-device… and is needed for completion of the “registration” process. NOW --- another level of complexity may be encountered --- as you attempt to retrieve the message from the top of the gateway. With my Nokia gateway, the PIN-message never seemed to appe
